Job Summary:

Are you a safety-first leader with a sharp eye for detail and a passion for keeping people, vehicles, and worksites running smoothly? We’re looking for a proactive Health & Safety, Fleet & Compliance Manager to take charge of our safety systems, vehicle compliance, and regulatory requirements. In this role, you’ll be out in the field, on the road, and behind the scenes—driving a culture of safety, ensuring our fleet stays on the move, and keeping our projects fully compliant. Key Responsibilities:

Health and Safety Oversight

  • Conduct regular onsite team safety checks (minimum: biweekly).
  • Ensure all workers follow safety procedures, wear appropriate PPE, and complete pre-starts/toolbox meetings.
  • Investigate incidents, complete incident reports, and maintain a risk register.
  • Deliver regular staff training on lifting, transport, hazardous materials, and foundation safety.
  • Ensure all worksites have proper hazard boards and documented site-specific safety plans (SSSPs).

Fleet Management

  • Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules, WOF/COF compliance, and servicing records.
  • Ensure all vehicles are road-legal and safe before every job.
  • Track vehicle use and mileage through logbooks or GPS if installed.
  • Coordinate timely repairs and ensure all vehicles have updated registration and insurance.

Compliance Management

  • Keep all driver licenses, endorsements, and operator certificates up to date and verified.
  • Maintain an up-to-date compliance log covering transport, building relocation regulations, and council permits.
  • Liaise with regulators and council bodies on consent conditions and permits (travel, relocation, noise, etc.).
  • Ensure travel permits and over-dimension protocols are met for all jobs.

Reporting & Admin Requirements:

  • Submit full written reports every 2 weeks:
  • Summary of vehicle inspections and service logs
  • Staff compliance: licenses, medicals, training
  • Site safety audit summaries
  • Incident/near-miss reports
  • Outstanding risks or maintenance issues
  • Maintain a compliance folder for each vehicle and each driver.

Qualifications & Attributes:

  • Background in transport or health & safety
  • NZQA H&S qualifications or unit standards preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-up
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Knowledge of NZTA, WorkSafe, and council regulations
