About the role:
Are you ready to take the lead on cutting-edge voice technology and make a real difference in the world of communications?
As our new Voice Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in designing, implementing, and maintaining resilient and innovative voice infrastructure—from VoIP and satellite voice to roaming and PSTN interconnects.
This isn’t your average desk job. You’ll be working hands-on with carrier-grade platforms, collaborating with talented tech minds, and solving complex, real-world problems that directly impact lives and businesses in hard-to-reach places.
Key Duties:
- Developing, configuring, and maintaining satellite and terrestrial voice systems, including VoIP infrastructure, SIP Based PSTN interconnects and Diameter roaming
- Providing technical support for voice services offered to customers, including satellite phones, mobile services, and enterprise voice solutions.
- Diagnosing and resolving complex voice-related faults escalated from level 1 & 2 support agents, across satellite and IP networks, ensuring minimal service disruption.
- Monitoring and maintaining voice platforms with other core network elements such as session border controllers (SBCs), softswitches, and PBXs.
- Monitoring and analyzing call quality metrics (e.g., jitter, latency, MOS) and proactively address performance issues.
- Configuring voice services, number routing, and dial plans across various SIP based platforms including but not limited to Ribbon, Mera and Sippy.
- Configuring and managing number porting systems including LNP and MNP.
- Monitoring system capacity and plan for growth to ensure high availability and service scalability.
- Ensuring all voice systems comply with regulatory requirements, emergency calling, security protocols, and lawful interception obligations.
- Participating in the planning and implementation of new voice products, services, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Working closely with the network operations, engineering, and product teams to deliver reliable and innovative voice solutions.
- Maintaining accurate documentation of configurations, processes, and system changes in accordance with internal policies and ISO standards.
- Coordinating with external vendors and carriers for provisioning, fault resolution, and service improvements.
- Understanding and providing support for mobile and number porting in the Australian telecommunications landscape
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience managing carrier-grade SIP switching and SBC platforms
- Deep understanding of VoIP protocols: SIP, RTP, SDP
- Solid skills in MySQL/Postgres for CDR analysis and troubleshooting
- Strong grasp of IP networking concepts (TCP/IP, NAT, QoS, VLANs, etc.)
- Familiarity with 4G/5G mobile voice technology and ACMA regulations
- Excellent fault diagnosis under pressure, with a passion for continuous improvement
- Proven success collaborating across Engineering, Product, and Operations teams
- Experience with vendors such as Ribbon, Mera, and Sippy is highly desirable
