Chef (Casual) | Expressions of Interest

$55-$65/hr Flat Casual Rate | Accommodation Provided | 7-14 Day Relief Engagements

Our culturally supportive accommodation facility provides a safe and welcoming environment for First Nations students, trainees, apprentices and workers pursuing education, training and employment opportunities.

We are currently seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from qualified and experienced Chefs interested in joining our relief pool to provide coverage during planned leave periods for our existing kitchen team.

About the Role

As the Relief Chef, you will lead a small kitchen operation, preparing fresh, nutritious meals for 12-20 residents, with numbers increasing to approximately 40 during residential nursing school programs and peak occupancy periods.

Alongside resident meal services, the role includes occasional catering opportunities for local businesses and community events. An experienced Kitchen Hand provides support during morning operations, allowing you to focus on delivering quality lunch and evening meal services

Typical Roster

• Relief engagements typically range from 7-14 days
• Approximate hours are 10-hour days Monday to Friday.
• Morning food preparation and lunch service
• Return for evening meal service from approximately 5:00pm-6:30pm
• Minimal weekend duties (typically fridge top-ups and light kitchen duties only).

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve nutritious, high-quality meals.
• Cater for dietary, cultural and religious requirements.
• Maintain food safety, hygiene and kitchen compliance standards.
• Manage stock control, ordering and food supplies.
• Monitor food quality and minimise wastage.
• Maintain kitchen records and documentation.
• Provide catering support for small community and business functions as required.

About You

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent).
• Previous experience in hospitality, residential, remote, community or bulk catering environments.
• Strong knowledge of food safety and kitchen compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently and manage a small kitchen operation.
• Reliable, organised and adaptable with a flexible approach to relief work.
