Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Victorian Unrestricted Electrical Licence (A-Grade) or equivalent recognised in Victoria.
  • Trade qualification as an electrician, or electrical engineering qualification with HV field experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in HV switching and access control on networks of 11 kV to 66 kV.
  • Demonstrated experience issuing and managing access permits and sanctions under the Blue Book or an equivalent HV safety code.
  • Experience energising new HV infrastructure during construction and commissioning.
  • Current Victorian driver’s licence.

Desirable

  • Experience on major infrastructure, transport or data centre projects.
  • Operating experience with network service provider interfaces (for example AusNet, CitiPower, Powercor, Jemena or United Energy).
  • HV testing and protection commissioning background.
  • Familiarity with completions management systems.

Skills and attributes

  • Strong safety leadership and the confidence to stop work or refuse access when conditions are not safe.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Blue Book, the Electricity Safety Act 1998 (Victoria), the Electricity Safety (General) Regulations, and the OHS Act 2004 (Victoria).
  • Working knowledge of AS 2067, AS/NZS 3000, and the network service provider’s operating rules.
  • Ability to read and maintain single line diagrams, protection schematics and operating diagrams.
  • Clear, disciplined communication, including three-way communication during switching.
  • Accurate record keeping under time pressure.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate outages across multiple contractors and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and review Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) for HV operations.
