Description

Join our Primary Mental Health team in this clinical intake role, supporting tāngata to access the right care at the right time. You’ll assess needs and connect people with tailored supports, either within our service or across the wider community.

Mōtetūnga | Role Overview

As a Kaiwhakatere, you will be the first point of contact for tāngata whai ora referred by their General Practitioner for support with their hauora hinengaro (mental wellbeing). You will partner with tāngata whai ora to understand what matters most to them, providing a welcoming and responsive entry into the service.

Your role will focus on guiding people to the supports that best meet their needs, including connection to community resources, wider social services, and our Brief Intervention Talking Therapy (BITT) team. You will support smooth navigation across services, helping to remove barriers and ensure timely, appropriate access to care.

Through this work, you will play a key role in enabling tāngata whai ora to engage with the right supports and take positive steps towards improved mental wellbeing.

Mōu | About you

The successful candidate will: 

  • Hold a relevant registered health professional qualification and registration without conditions (eg. NZAC, SWRB, NZPB, Nursing Council, DAPAANZ, PBANZ)
  • 2+ years working within a counselling/mental health environment.
  • Strong knowledge of community agencies and the ability to build strong relationships across the sector
  • Demonstrated understanding of kaupapa Māori models of wellbeing (e.g., Te Whare Tapa Whā, Meihana Model) and the ability to integrate these into clinical practice appropriately.
  • Demonstrate highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, and an ability to develop relationships with a wide variety of people. 
  • Good computer literacy with a willingness to learn new systems.
