Te āhua o te mahi | What you will be doing
As Equity Specialist, you will be part of our Practice Enablement Team, working alongside general practices and teams across Pegasus. The role is 0.7–1.0 FTE, with flexibility to discuss what this might look like with the successful applicant.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about equity, values relationships and can work alongside others to support meaningful and sustainable improvement.
You will:
- Work alongside practices to understand barriers to access, experiences and outcomes for whānau Māori and communities experiencing inequities, and identify practical opportunities for improvement
- Support the development, implementation and ongoing strengthening of Māori health plans, recall and screening activity, equity measures, and quality improvement
- Use data and community insights to understand inequities and identify opportunities for meaningful action
- Connect practices with Māori, Pacific, Whaikaha and other community expertise, services, and resources to strengthen outcomes for whānau and communities
Ngā pūkenga motuhake | What you will bring
- A demonstrated understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the ability to apply Te Tiriti, equity and cultural safety within health or community settings
- Knowledge and understanding of Te Ao Māori, tikanga Māori and contemporary issues influencing hauora Māori and health equity
- Experience building and maintaining trusted relationships with whānau, iwi, hapū, rūnaka, Māori health providers and communities
- Relevant qualifications and/or experience in hauora Māori, health equity, public health, primary care, community development, quality improvement, or a related area
- An understanding of general practice and the environment in which practices operate
- Experience in quality improvement, implementation, or supporting change
- Strong relationship-building, influencing, analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
- A demonstrated commitment to learning, using and continuing to strengthen te reo Māori within your mahi
