Step Into a Senior Workshop Role

Caloundra GWM is looking for a Workshop Controller / Diagnostic Technician to join our Service Department and take on a senior role within our small workshop team.

This position would suit a highly capable technician who enjoys diagnostics and complex fault finding but is also ready to take the next step into workshop leadership and coordination.

For the right person, there is a genuine pathway to Workshop Foreman as the department continues to grow.

About the Role

This is a hands-on position combining advanced diagnostic work with day-to-day workshop control.

Working alongside our Service Manager, you will help coordinate the flow of work through the workshop, support other technicians with technical issues and ensure jobs are completed efficiently and to a high standard.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Performing advanced mechanical and electrical diagnostics and fault finding
• Carrying out servicing, repairs, warranty work and manufacturer campaigns
• Assisting with the daily allocation and progression of workshop jobs
• Monitoring jobs to help ensure work is completed efficiently and on time
• Providing technical support and guidance to technicians and apprentices
• Assisting with difficult or complex diagnostic cases
• Liaising with the Service Manager and Service Advisers regarding job progress
• Ensuring diagnostic findings and repairs are accurately documented
• Identifying additional repair and maintenance requirements
• Supporting manufacturer technical and warranty processes
• Maintaining high standards of workmanship, productivity and workshop safety
• Helping develop a positive, accountable and supportive workshop culture

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone with strong technical ability who is also comfortable taking responsibility within a small team.

To be considered, you will ideally have:

• Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
• Minimum 5 years’ post-trade experience
• Strong diagnostic and electrical fault-finding capability
• Confidence working independently on complex technical issues
• Experience within a dealership workshop highly regarded
• Previous Workshop Controller, Leading Hand or senior technician experience advantageous
• Ability to assist, mentor and provide technical guidance to other technicians
• Good organisational and communication skills
• High attention to detail and pride in your workmanship
• Strong reliability and work ethic
• Current Australian driver’s licence

Previous GWM experience is not essential. Manufacturer training and technical support will be provided.
