VMware Engineer – Contract | Canberra | NV2+ Cleared

Opes is looking for experienced contractors to support the delivery of a complex project in Canberra. We are seeking professionals with demonstrated expertise, a strong delivery mindset, and the ability to operate effectively in secure, high-assurance environments.

About the role

As a VMware Engineer, you’ll build and integrate the server infrastructure, virtualisation, backup and high-availability layers to the direction set by our VMware SME. This is a hands-on build role that still carries design-level decisions and integration responsibility across components.

What you’ll be doing

• Building and configuring VMware vSphere / ESXi, vCenter and vSAN to the SME’s direction
• Configuring NSX network virtualisation to design
• Configuring and validating Commvault backup jobs and restore testing
• Building and integrating server infrastructure (compute and storage) with the virtualisation layer
• Implementing the high-availability approach across the environment
• Troubleshooting virtualisation faults, escalating complex issues to the VMware SME
• Maintaining build documentation, configuration records and operational runbooks
• Contributing to backup and DCBCP implementation across Commvault Cloud, On-Premise and Hyperscale X.

What we’re looking for

• Hands-on build experience across VMware vSphere / ESXi and vCenter
• Strong vSAN capability and NSX configuration experience
• Experience with HPE storage and compute platforms
• Commvault backup experience, including job configuration and restore validation
• A disciplined approach to documentation, configuration records and change control
• The ability to work unsupervised and deliver defined workstreams to a consistent standard

Clearance

You must hold a current Australian Government security clearance at NV2 or above. Opes is not sponsoring new clearances for these positions. Only applicants who currently hold the required clearance will be considered.
