- Scope, design, and defend solutions across managed IT, mobility, telco, cloud, or security.
- Design and commercially structure technology solutions for government procurement, governance and evaluation processes.
- Existing security clearance, or eligibility to obtain one, for a sensitive environment.
Role Type
Description
Summary:
As a Technical Solutions & Commercial Lead – Government, you’ll combine technical expertise, commercial acumen and senior client engagement to shape solutions that make a real difference.
You’ll work closely with government clients to design practical, resilient technology solutions, while driving strategic account growth, proposals and long-term partnerships across managed IT, mobility, telecommunications, cloud and security.
Key Responsibilities:
Solution design and technical ownership
- Work with government clients to understand requirements and translate them into practical, well-scoped technical solutions across 1Solution’s portfolio – managed IT, enterprise mobility, telecommunications, security, and cloud.
- Design for resilience and operational continuity by default – redundancy, failover, and 24/7 tolerance – reflecting the real-world consequences of downtime in an emergency services environment, not just SLA compliance.
- Lead solution scoping and design end-to-end, drawing on the wider engineering team for deep specialist input, but holding personal technical ownership of the shape, feasibility, and defensibility of the solution.
- Author and take ownership of statements of work, technical proposals, design documents, and responses to client requirements and tenders.
- Hold credible, detailed technical conversations with both clients and internal engineers – able to challenge, adapt, and stand behind a design under scrutiny.
- Ensure solutions align with 1Solution’s security posture (Essential Eight Maturity Level 3) and the client’s compliance, probity, and public-safety information security obligations (e.g. ISM controls, mission-critical network requirements).
- Act as the technical reference point for the account, maintaining a clear, current view of each client’s environment, architecture, and roadmap.
- Own technical risk and quality on proposed solutions, escalating and resolving design issues before they become delivery problems.
Commercial and account growth
- Own the commercial health of each nominated account, including contract performance, renewals, variations, profitability, and the early identification of risks or opportunities that may affect account value.
- Identify, shape, and pursue opportunities to expand the value 1Solution delivers, working with the sales team where appropriate.
- Prepare and present quotes, proposals, and business cases; protect scope and margin while building a compelling commercial case.
- Forecast and report on account revenue, pipeline, and growth performance against target.
- Build senior-level relationships across each client organisation specifically to identify growth opportunities – understanding their strategy, budget cycles, and decision-making structures.
- Represent the client’s technical and commercial interests internally, coordinating engineering, telco, sales, and finance teams to bring a coherent offer to market.
- Track competitor and market positioning relevant to each account and use this intelligence to sharpen proposals and pricing.
Supporting relationship and governance activities
- Act as a trusted point of contact into 1Solution for the nominated key clients on solution and commercial matters.
- Contribute to account governance – service reviews and steering meetings – with a focus on solution roadmap and commercial standing rather than day-to-day delivery reporting.
- Hand off agreed solutions cleanly to delivery teams, with enough documentation and context that execution does not depend on ongoing involvement.
Essential experience and skills
- Genuine technical fluency – able to scope, design, and defend solutions across managed IT, mobility, telco, cloud, or security.
- Familiarity with mission-critical or public-safety technology domains – e.g. dispatch/CAD systems, mobile data terminals, radio, network or tower infrastructure – and the resilience standards they demand.
- Demonstrable experience designing and commercially structuring solutions for government clients, with a clear understanding of how government organisations buy, govern, and evaluate technical proposals.
- Strong track record of account or portfolio growth – renewals, variations, upsell, and new opportunity capture – in an IT, telecommunications, or technology services environment.
- Commercial acumen – comfortable owning pricing, margin, and business case development.
- Proven ability to translate technical solutions into client-ready commercial propositions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including technical documentation, proposals, and executive-level presentation.
- Familiarity with government procurement, probity, and emergency services-specific compliance expectations (e.g. interoperability, uptime, and information security standards for public-safety systems).
- Existing security clearance, or eligibility to obtain one – required given the sensitivity of the environment.
Desirable
- Experience within a managed services provider (MSP), systems integrator, or carrier/telco partner environment.
- Exposure to government security frameworks such as the Essential Eight, and to enterprise mobility, unified communications, or network/security solutions.
- Relevant certifications – for example solution architecture, vendor/technical certifications, and/or commercial or sales methodology training.
Personal attributes
- Design-minded – takes ownership of a solution from first principles through to a defensible, client-ready design.
- Commercially driven – sees every technical conversation as a growth opportunity, not just an engineering exercise.
- Calm and credible under pressure, especially when an escalation is operationally urgent rather than just commercially sensitive.
- Organised and disciplined across competing proposals and account priorities.
- Comfortable with autonomy and trusted, technically grounded decision-making.
What success looks like
- Solutions proposed to key clients are technically sound, well-differentiated, and rarely challenged on design grounds.
- Nominated accounts show year-on-year growth in contract value, renewals, and margin.
- 1Solution is regarded as the technically credible, commercially straightforward partner of choice for its key government clients.
- Delivery teams receive solutions that are clear, well-scoped, and ready to execute without rework.
