ROLE OVERVIEW
The Receptionist is responsible in ensuring the efficient and welcoming operation of NDCH’s facilities. This position provides high-quality customer service to clients, supports clinical and administrative staff, and upholds the integrity and confidentiality of all patient information. The role contributes to NDCH’s commitment to delivering accessible, person-centred, and culturally safe healthcare within a multidisciplinary community health setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide friendly, professional reception and telephone service to patients, clients and visitors.
- Manage patient appointments, registrations, billing, payments and general enquiries.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, correspondence and documentation.
- Assist clinicians with administration, reports, photocopying, scanning and other day-to-day support.
- Manage incoming and outgoing mail and maintain reception and waiting areas.
- Ensure patient information, forms and displays are kept up to date and well stocked.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality, accuracy and attention to detail at all times.
- Follow workplace health and safety, infection control and practice procedures.
- Work cooperatively with clinicians and staff while also being able to work independently and prioritise tasks.
- Participate in staff meetings, training and ongoing professional development.
- Provide a welcoming, patient-focused service and represent the practice in a friendly and professional manner.
- Undertake other duties as required by the Practice Manager, nurses and doctors.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
- Previous experience in a customer service or reception role, preferably within a health, medical or community services setting.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff and a range of stakeholders.
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and independently when required.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritise tasks.
- Commitment to confidentiality and providing a professional, patient-focused service.
- High School Certificate or equivalent.
Desirable
- Certificate III or IV in Business Administration, Medical Administration or a related field.
- Experience with Medicare billing, electronic claiming or MyMedicare.
- Knowledge of healthcare quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of local community health and support services.
- Understanding of the challenges faced by people living in rural and regional communities.
