Safety & Training Manager

Build the system. Train the people. Raise the standard.

Morrows Logistics is a growing Australian logistics business specialising in dangerous goods transport and 3PL services.

We are looking for a practical, confident safety professional to build and lead our safety and training function.

This is not a traditional desk-based safety role. You will work directly with our drivers, warehouse team members, managers and leadership team to understand how work is actually done, build the systems and policies that support it, and develop the training that makes those standards part of everyday operations.

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will have genuine scope to build something from the ground up and shape how Morrows approaches safety, training and capability as we grow.

What you will do

Build the system

You will take ownership of developing and improving Morrows’ safety framework, including:

• Developing practical safety policies, procedures and SOPs that support the way we actually operate.
• Maintaining the systems and processes that support a safe and accountable workplace.
• Conducting workplace inspections, risk assessments, audits and safety reviews.
• Investigating incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and putting practical improvements in place.
• Supporting dangerous goods, Chain of Responsibility and other relevant safety requirements.
• Working with managers and operational teams to identify risks and improve the way work is performed.
• Ensuring our standards are understood, practical and consistently applied.

Train the people

The systems only work if our people understand them.

You will build a structured Morrows training framework that includes:

• Driver, warehouse, operations and leadership training.
• Inductions, refresher training and competency assessments.
• Practical training based on identified risks, incidents and operational needs.
• Identifying training gaps and developing solutions.
• Delivering training yourself where appropriate.
• Building the foundations for a future training capability across the business.

The goal is not more paperwork or more training for the sake of it.

The goal is capable people who understand what is expected of them and have the knowledge and skills to do their jobs well.

About you

You are practical, confident and credible.

You can build trust with people, but you are also prepared to challenge them when the standard needs to be maintained.

You are comfortable walking into a warehouse, talking to a driver, sitting down with a manager, understanding what is happening in practice and then working out how to make it better.

You can take a safety requirement and turn it into a clear policy, procedure or training program that people can actually understand and use.

You are also a strong writer. You will be responsible for developing policies, procedures and other documentation, so you need to be able to communicate clearly and professionally.

Most importantly, you are a doer. You see something that needs fixing and take ownership of making it better.

What we are looking for

Essential

• Practical experience in WHS, safety, risk or a related discipline.
• Experience working in an operational environment such as transport, logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, industrial, construction or another safety-focused environment.
• Strong understanding of workplace safety principles.
• Strong written communication skills, including the ability to develop policies, procedures and SOPs.
• Experience with incident investigation, risk assessment, workplace inspections or corrective actions.
• The ability to influence operational teams and build genuine engagement around safety.
• A hands-on approach and the confidence to work directly with people at all levels of the business.

Highly regarded

• Dangerous goods experience.
• Transport, logistics or warehousing experience.
• Chain of Responsibility experience.
• Experience developing and delivering workplace training.
• Formal qualifications in WHS, safety, training, dangerous goods or a related discipline.
• Experience building or improving a safety or training framework.

We are not necessarily looking for someone who has done this exact job before.
