The Methodist Mission is an innovative social justice agency based in Dunedin delivering services through Otago and Southland.
We are looking for the right person to become a member of our team of Transition House Supervisors based in Ōtepoti Dunedin to make a real difference in lives of youth experiencing homelessness.
About the role
The Kaiwhakahaere Whare – Kaupapa Rakatahi Supervisor provides safety and security for the residents of the Transition House. They role-model behaviour and support residents with daily tasks focused on encouragement to build independence. Supported by the Transition House Coordinator and Taituara a Hapori the Kaiwhakahaere Whare – Kaupapa Rakatahi identify opportunities to encourage residents to learn new life skills and resilience.
This is a casual as-and-when, shift-based role including overnight and weekend work. We are looking for applicants who will remain available during University exam time, University breaks and public holidays. Shifts will be rostered when possible and may also be available on short notice.

- Be provided with training in First Aid, Fire Warden and Mental Health First Aid
- Be invited to participate in additional paid training

To be successful in this role you will have:
- the ability to interact effectively and positively with a wide range of people
- Experience working with Māori youth
- Good time management, reliability and planning skills
- Computer and technology ability
- the ability to communicate effectively with your team while working independently
- An understanding of the importance of safety, security and professional boundaries
- the ability to work with situations of conflict and crisis in a calm and orderly manner
- A full clean New Zealand drivers License (mandatory)
- Experience in youth work and/or overnight residential supervision is an advantage, but is not essential. Applicants will be shortlisted on their demonstrated ability to meet the person specification.
