Longtrail Farms is a large-scale, pivot-irrigated potato, broadacre and livestock operation in Parilla, South Australia’s Mallee. We’re currently looking for two all rounder Machine Operators that what to join us on our journey as we continue to grow.  You will be serious about developing your long-term careers within our business.  

You are either just starting out in agriculture or are a seasoned operator. You’re not just looking for seasonal work, you have serious desire to grow your experience with one farm that can provide a diverse and wide variety of operational experience. Your responsible, and committed. 

We have a mixed team of permanent employees who have been with us up to 20 years and casuals who provide support with our busier seasonal work.  Our team members are dedicated, loyal and we value their contribution as it’s what has made our journey so far so successful.   How you show up and contribute matters, as it affects the overall productivity of our team.

The Opportunity

As a Generalist Machine Operator, your overall responsibility will be to operate all types of machinery including but not limited to tillage, sprayers, spreaders, potato harvesters, grain harvesters, chaser bins, and seeding.

You will also assist in any other general farm duties as the potato and broadacre operations require.

• You’re grounded, genuinely looking for a long-term role within one farm and are serious about growing your experience
• You either have at least one year’s experience driving farm machinery or are a seasoned machinery operator
• Responsibility is your middle name.  You take your role seriously and show up ready work.
• You take pride in maintaining the cleanliness and maintenance of your machinery and workplace to a high standard
• You don’t want to be pigeonholed to one machine and enjoy the diversity of working across different machinery and cropping systems.
• You are open to new ways of doing things and enjoy learning and growing
• You are organised and reliable
• You are dedicated, motivated and enjoy working in a team environment.
• You understand the importance of your contribution and how it affects the performance of the team and the business

What you will bring

• minimum one years experience operating large harvesting machinery
• a responsible, diligent approach to your work with a can do attitude.
• hold a current driver’s licence (heavy vehicle desirable)
• a natural interest in technology and systems
• practical, reliable, flexible and adaptable if given changing priorities
• mechanically minded with the ability to maintain machinery
• pride in machinery, infrastructure and presentation
• strong attention to detail and problem solving skills
• ability to concentrate for long periods of time, work longer hours during peak season which includes night work
• communicates well and contributes positively within a close-knit team is seeking a long-term role offering stability, variety and responsibility
