Are you passionate about local news and regional storytelling? Ready to immerse yourself in community life and build a meaningful journalism career across North Queensland?

Life Publishing Group is looking for an enthusiastic, people-focused Journalist to join our team. Working under our senior journalist in Mackay, you’ll receive on-the-ground training.

About the Role:

You’ll be the central point of contact for your community, sourcing stories, attending events, and delivering engaging weekly content. You’ll work across our Mackay newspaper and magazines Core Life and Tripping Magazine.

This is a full-time, in region position.

What We’re Looking For:  A deep love for regional communities and storytelling A passion for translating on-the-ground reporting into online content across multiple platforms  A self-starter with a friendly, approachable and can-do attitude  Someone excited to be out and about — joining clubs, attending events, chatting to locals A storyteller who can make anyone feel seen, from pensioners to politicians Comfortable working independently and occasionally outside standard hours Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills A basic understanding of what makes a great local story A valid driver’s license, car, phone and laptop

Journalism experience or training is ideal but not essential — we’ll train the right person.

 

Responsibilities:

·Writing engaging local news, events, and human-interest stories

·Interviewing a wide range of community members

·Attending and reporting on events and local happenings

·Creating online content such as video reels

·Collaborating with editors, designers, and photographers

·Meeting weekly deadlines

·Taking engaging photos
