We are looking for a calm, reliable and experienced Disability Support Worker to provide high-quality, person-centred support to a client living in Maroubra.

This role is particularly suited to someone with experience supporting people with mental health conditions and psychosocial disabilities. Experience providing community participation and social support, encouraging engagement in meaningful activities, building confidence and promoting independence within the community will be highly regarded.

About the Role

As a Disability Support Worker, you will provide respectful, consistent and person-centred support to a client with mental health conditions and psychosocial support needs. The focus of this role is to support the client to remain engaged in the community, build confidence and independence, and participate in meaningful everyday activities.

We are looking for a mature, reliable and engaging Support Worker who lives locally or within close proximity to the client and can build a positive and trusting relationship through consistent support.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Supporting the client with community participation and social engagement
• Providing companionship and meaningful social support
• Supporting the client to access the community and participate in activities of interest
• Assisting with grocery shopping and other day-to-day activities
• Providing support to attend appointments, including medical and other community-based appointments
• Encouraging the client to build confidence, independence and social connections within the community
• Supporting the client to establish and maintain positive daily routines
• Providing prompts and encouragement where required
• Supporting the client to make their own choices and remain actively involved in decisions about their support
• Following the client’s individual support plan, risk assessments and relevant care instructions
• Observing and reporting any changes in the client’s wellbeing or support needs
• Maintaining accurate and timely documentation
• Building a positive and trusting relationship through calm, consistent and respectful support
• Promoting the client’s independence, dignity, choice and quality of life
• Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times

About the Client Support Needs’

The ideal Support Worker will have experience with:

• Mental health conditions and psychosocial disability
• Community participation and social support
• Shopping, appointments and community outings
• Building confidence, independence and social engagement
• Providing calm, consistent and respectful support

A mature, reliable and engaging Support Worker who lives locally and can build a positive, trusting relationship with the client is preferred.

About You

You are a mature, compassionate and dependable Support Worker who:

• Has experience supporting people with mental health conditions and psychosocial disability
• Is confident providing community participation and social support
• Is friendly, engaging, patient and a good communicator
• Can support with shopping, appointments and community outings
• Can build a positive and trusting relationship with the client
• Encourages independence, confidence and meaningful social engagement
• Is reliable, consistent and able to work independently
• Respects individual choice, privacy, dignity and professional boundaries
• Ideally lives locally or within close proximity to the client
• Has a genuine passion for improving a client’s everyday quality of life

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have:

• NDIS Worker Screening Check
• Working With Children Check (WWCC)
• Valid Australian Driver’s Licence
• Own reliable vehicle – this is essential
• First Aid and CPR Certificate
• Certificate III or IV in Disability, Individual Support, Aged Care or a relevant qualification
• Previous experience in disability support, aged care or a similar care environment
• Ability to work in accordance with individual support plans and safety procedures
• Australian working rights
