Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporation (Laynha) is looking for a Youth & Families Project Officer to join our Health team and support the delivery of our Youth and Social & Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) programs.

This is a practical, community-focused role for someone who enjoys working with people, building strong relationships and making a positive difference for children, young people and families.

About Us

For more than 40 years, Laynha has supported Yolŋu people living across approximately 30 homelands in East Arnhem Land. We deliver essential services including primary health care, aged care, housing, municipal and essential services, employment programs and environmental management, working in genuine partnership with homeland communities to support self-determination and strong futures.

About the role

Working alongside the Youth Manager and SEWB Coordinators, you will provide practical support to programs and activities across Laynha Homelands.

You will regularly travel to Homelands, spending time with families and communities and helping connect people with the support they need.

Your work will include:

• Travelling regularly to Laynha Homelands, including at least one overnight stay each week
• Providing practical support to children, young people and families
• Supporting family wellbeing and resilience while building on the strengths of families and communities
• Helping plan and deliver youth and SEWB activities and programs
• Organising activities, resources, transport, appointments, meetings and community visits
• Working with families, Laynha staff and external service providers
• Following up appointments, referrals and outstanding matters
• Keeping clear records and completing required reporting
• Supporting the team during busy periods and staff leave
• Building positive and professional relationships with Yolŋu, families, community members and service providers

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience working with Aboriginal communities and a strong understanding of Indigenous culture
• Understands the issues affecting Aboriginal children, young people and families
• Has experience working in a community, social work, health or similar setting
• Understands trauma-informed practice
• Is confident communicating with different people and organisations
• Can facilitate groups and activities
• Is respectful, culturally aware and able to build trust with families and communities

A qualification in community work, social work or a related area is desirable, however equivalent experience will be considered.
