About the Role

Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council is seeking a reliable and motivated Cleaner to support the day‑to‑day operations of all Council facilities.

This role is responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness across Council accommodation facilities, offices, community buildings, and other Council‑managed sites, while contributing to a welcoming, safe, and positive environment for staff, guests, visitors, and community members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain all Council facilities, including accommodation centres, offices, community buildings, and shared spaces, in line with established cleaning schedules
  • Ensure high standards of hygiene, sanitation, and workplace safety across all areas
  • Restock cleaning supplies and assist with inventory management
  • Provide friendly, respectful, and professional customer service when interacting with staff, guests, and community members
  • Follow all relevant cleaning, workplace health and safety, and infection‑control procedures
  • Report maintenance or safety issues promptly to supervisors

About You

  • Experience in cleaning or similar work (preferred)
  • Strong time‑management and organisational skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently
  • Friendly, approachable, and committed to positive customer service
  • Willingness to learn, undertake training, and adapt to changing needs
  • Ability to work respectfully within a culturally diverse community

Mandatory Requirements

  • Current Driver Licence (desirable)
  • Ability to obtain a National Police Check
