Brief Summary of role:
Katherine Sobering Up Shelter is an 18bed shelter operating 4 nights per week, week provides overnight accommodation to those under the influence of alcohol or other drugs who have been externally or self-referred.
To provide day, afternoon and overnight support to people affected by alcohol in a safe, 18 bed sobering up shelter until the effects of their alcohol use has reduced.
The support worker is responsible for the ongoing support and safety of clients at the centre. This will involve clear, compassionate communication with clients and management, active participation in personal support and domestic duties, administrative tasks and stakeholder engagement.
The support workers should continue the provision of a culturally appropriate service to all clients.
Salary and Conditions:
Employment Type: Casual
Wage: $35.68 per hour (including Casual loading)
Plus applicable shift allowances and penalties, as per Kalano’s Enterprise Agreement.
Hours of operation/Shifts:
Tuesday to Saturday
Afternoon Shift: 3pm – 11:30pm
Night Shift: 11:30pm – 8:00am
These are active working shifts – NOT sleepover shifts.
MUST be available to work Night shifts during the week.

The applicants should possess the following:
Qualifications
- Certificate in Alcohol & Other Drugs or Community Services (or willing to obtain)
Mandatory before commencement:
- Valid NT Drivers Licence
- Valid NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card)
- National Police Check
Experience & Skills
- Experience working with Indigenous people
- Competent knowledge of computer software and systems (i.e. Word, Excel, etc)
- Understanding of the barriers and challenges that Indigenous people face in the NT
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clients, staff and stakeholders
- Sound knowledge of work, health and safety principles and practices
