Description

Purpose of the Role

 

The RJED Program Support Team Leader oversees the daily operations of the RJED program and provides guidance, support, and direction to the Youth Support Workers, Early Years Support Workers, Elder Support Workers, Event Support Workers, and Service Administration staff connected to the program. The Team Leader ensures staff feel supported, confident, and equipped to carry out their roles. The Team Leader also ensures the program runs smoothly, meets community needs, and aligns with Julyardi’s values and cultural responsibilities.

 

The role focuses on problem‑solving, staff support, program quality, and strong relationships with families, Elders, schools, and community partners.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Program Oversight and Coordination

  • Oversee the day‑to‑day running of the RJED program to ensure services are delivered safely, consistently, and in line with program goals.
  • Monitor staff attendance, daily tasks, and program schedules to ensure smooth operations.
  • Support staff to prioritise tasks and manage their workload effectively.
  • Identify gaps or challenges in service delivery and work with the team to find solutions.

2. Staff Support and Guidance

  • Provide on‑the‑ground support to staff by answering questions, offering direction, and helping them navigate difficult situations.
  • Support new staff with onboarding, role clarity, and understanding program expectations.
  • Offer regular check‑ins to ensure staff feel supported, confident, and culturally safe in their roles.
  • Encourage teamwork, communication, and a positive work environment.

3. Quality and Consistency of Service

  • Ensure all RJED activities—transport, food access, hygiene support, school engagement, early years programs, Elder support, and events—are delivered to a high standard.
  • Support staff to follow procedures, maintain accurate records, and uphold Julyardi’s “no wrong door” approach.
  • Monitor program outcomes and identify areas for improvement.

4. Community and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with families, Elders, schools, community organisations, and service providers.
  • Represent the RJED program in meetings, community events, and collaborative activities.
  • Ensure the program remains culturally safe, community‑led, and responsive to local needs.

5. Problem Solving and Issue Management

  • Provide immediate support when staff encounter challenges with clients, logistics, or service access.
  • Assist with resolving issues such as school enrolment barriers, transport difficulties, or family engagement concerns.
  • Escalate complex matters to senior leadership when required.

6. Program Administration and Reporting

  • Work with Service Administration staff to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
  • Assist with tracking program participation, outcomes, and community needs.
  • Support the preparation of simple reports for internal use or funding requirements.

7. Cultural Safety and Community Leadership

  • Ensure all program activities respect cultural protocols and support Aboriginal families in a culturally safe way.
  • Work closely with Elders to ensure their voices guide program decisions.
  • Promote Julyardi’s commitment to “Nothing about us without us” in all aspects of the program.

  • Good problem‑solving skills and ability to make decisions in fast‑moving situations.
  • Understanding of Aboriginal culture, community dynamics, and cultural safety principles.
  • Organised, reliable, and able to coordinate multiple tasks at once.
  • Ability to guide staff without formal authority, using influence, support, and relationship‑building.
  • Confidence in representing the program in community settings.

 

Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience in community services, education, youth work, or related fields.
  • Experience supporting staff or coordinating programs (formal leadership not required but beneficial).
  • Understanding of the Pilbara context and local Aboriginal communities.
  • Willingness to complete training in cultural safety, trauma‑informed practice, and program coordination.
  • Working With Children Check and National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain).
  • Driver’s licence required with driving history compatible with organisations Insurance company for coverage
