JRM Resources is looking for someone who wants to build a trade career with us from the ground up.

We currently have one apprentice Boilermaker Welder vacancy to fill. You will work alongside experienced boilermakers and welders, developing practical skills on plant, equipment and metal fabrication projects.

The Role

As an Apprentice Boilermaker Welder, you will work towards a Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade, while receiving supervision matched to your skills and the task, with support to ask questions and learn safely.

What you will learn

  • Reading drawings, measuring, marking out and preparing metal for fabrication.
  • Cutting, drilling, grinding, fitting and welding components, with tasks progressing as your skills develop.
  • Fabricating and repairing metal components for plant and equipment, using tools safely and checking the quality of your work.

What you’ll do

Under appropriate supervision and as training progresses:

  • Assist qualified boilermakers and welders with fabrication, assembly, installation and repairs to metal components, plant, machinery and associated equipment.
  • Learn to read engineering drawings, fabrication plans and specifications, and measure, mark out and prepare materials accurately.
  • Develop skills in cutting, drilling, grinding, forming, fitting and assembling metal components using approved methods and equipment.
  • Learn appropriate welding processes, joint preparation, equipment settings and consumable selection in line with the training plan and approved welding procedures.
  • Assist with repair and replacement of worn or damaged metal components. Learn to check dimensions, alignment and weld quality, and refer defects to the supervisor.
  • Use tools and workshop equipment safely, identify materials and consumables, complete job cards, inspection records and training logbooks accurately.
  • Keep work areas clean and organised, care for tools and equipment, and follow procedures for scrap, consumables, hazardous substances and waste.
  • Complete your off-the-job training and meet your RTO requirements.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.

What We Are Looking For

You don’t need a trade background, but you do need the right attitude and commitment.

Essential

  • An interest in fabrication and welding, a willingness to learn and a commitment to completing your apprenticeship.
  • The right to work in Australia and eligibility for the nominated WA apprenticeship training contract.
  • Reliability, punctuality, respect for others and a practical approach to working safely.
  • Willingness to attend trade training, complete assessments and follow instructions.
  • Ability to perform the role safely, with reasonable adjustments where required, and willingness to follow safety, conduct, attendance and training requirements.
  • Literacy, numeracy and digital skills suitable for trade training, or willingness to participate in assessment and an agreed support plan.

Desirable

  • Year 10 or higher, a pre-apprenticeship, relevant work experience or vocational studies.
  • Mechanical or fabrication aptitude shown through school, hobbies, work, volunteering or practical projects.
  • A current driver’s licence, or a realistic plan to get one within an agreed timeframe.
  • A Construction Induction Card, where required for your placement.

You’ll be a great fit if you have

  • Total commitment to Zero Harm and safety leadership.
  • A professional work ethic and a “can do” attitude.
  • Reliability, and a willingness to put in extra effort as a team player.
  • Clear communication with teammates and respect for others.
  • Good problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
  • An openness to technology and innovation.

What We Offer

JRM is committed to developing apprentices properly. Every apprentice receives:

  • A structured pathway: a registered training contract, an RTO training plan and a JRM workplace development plan.
  • Proper induction: corporate, site, role, psychosocial safety, respectful workplace, fatigue and fitness for work.
  • Paid training time: protected attendance at off-the-job training, paid as required by the applicable industrial instrument and training contract.
  • Broad exposure: planned experience across suitable functions and equipment, reviewed each quarter.
  • Tools and PPE: fit-for-purpose, correctly sized equipment, with clear issue and replacement arrangements.
  • A mentor: separate from your direct supervisor where practicable. Female apprentices are offered a female mentor or external women-in-trades support.
  • Early, stigma-free support: help with literacy, numeracy, wellbeing, transport or any other barrier to your training.
  • Regular reviews: a 30-day review, an end-of-probation review, quarterly reviews, and 6 and 12-month program reviews.

Your formal competency sign-off is always made by an authorised assessor, and your supervisors will verify your workplace exposure and performance along the way.

How We Select

Our selection process looks at your safety mindset, your motivation and understanding of the trade, how you learn and solve problems, your practical aptitude, your reliability, and how you work with others. We’re looking for potential and attitude as much as experience.
