Reporting to the Building Services Manager – City, you will lead the design and delivery of fire engineering services design and documentation across a diverse range of building projects, while establishing and growing JN’s in-house fire capability. This role is available from either our Sydney CBD or Sutherland Shire office, and offers a genuine pathway to Associate level for the right candidate.
As the Senior Fire Protection Engineer, your responsibilities will consist of:
• Attending client and stakeholder design meetings;
• Designing and documenting wet and dry fire systems, including automatic sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, gas suppression systems, and fire detection and alarm systems;
• Coordinating fire system design with JN’s hydraulic, mechanical and electrical teams to deliver fully integrated building services solutions;
• Authoring and reviewing fire engineering reports and performance solutions under the NCC;
• Endorsing fire system designs under FPAS Fire Systems Design (FSD) accreditation;
• Managing key projects and coordinating fire engineering design delivery;
• Building key client relationships;
• Growing and mentoring JN’s fire engineering team; and
• Understanding of budgets and profitability targets.
Your experience shall include:
• A relevant engineering qualification (Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent);
• A minimum of 8 years’ experience in fire engineering, ideally within a building services consultancy;
• FPAS Fire Systems Design (FSD) accreditation across all three categories – automatic sprinkler systems, fire hydrant and hose reel systems, and fire detection and alarm systems;
• FPAS Fire Safety Assessment (FSA) accreditation is highly regarded;
• Solid experience with wet fire systems: sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels and gas suppression;
• Solid experience with dry fire systems: smoke and heat detection, fire alarm and EWIS design;
• Strong understanding of relevant Australian Standards (AS 2118, AS 2419, AS 1670 series, AS 4428, AS 1851) and the National Construction Code;
• Experience coordinating within multidisciplinary design and documentation teams;
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information of a complex nature both verbally and in writing with all stakeholders across disciplines, including colleagues and clients; and
• A personable work approach and the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships.
We enjoy monthly Accrued Days Off (ADO’s) and as voted by the JN Team, we work in the office Monday, Thursday and Friday with flexibility to work from home on Tuesday and Wednesday.
