HumanAbility is a Jobs and Skills Council for the health, human services, aged care and disability, sport & recreation and early childhood industries.

HumanAbility’s objective is to advance education by supporting skills and workforce development for the above specified industries. It is a values-based organisation, that is not-for-profit, industry-owned and led, that is contracted by the federal government.

We have an opportunity for a Communications Coordinator to join us on a full-time basis in an ongoing capacity subject to funding (currently funded until mid-2028). The role may be located anywhere in Australia and will involve travel with overnight stays for organisation meetings, stakeholder meetings, workshops, and industry events.

About the position

HumanAbility is seeking a skilled and dynamic Communications Coordinator to support the creation and delivery of communications about our work. 

The Communications Coordinator will work with the Senior Communications Advisor and other members of the Communications team to plan, draft and create clear, concised and compelling communications about HumanAbility’s projects and work. 

You’ll work on internal and external communications including our website, newsletter, events and social media channels. 

This position will also assist the wider Communications team as required and will at times be required to liaise with a range of contractors, such as graphic designers, videographers, and website developers. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Identify, plan and create content for HumanAbility’s communications channels, including social, digital and newsletters
  • Translate complex technical, policy and workforce content into plain English that suits the target audience
  • Draft communication materials with clarity, accuracy, and consistency
  • Ensure all content is accessible and appropriate for diverse audiences, including industry stakeholders and the public
  • Work closely with other teams as directed to align communications across our sectors 
  • Assist in the development or commissioning of multimedia content, including videos and graphics, as required
  • Observe and follow work health, safety and wellbeing policies and guidelines

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism or similar or demonstrated equivalent experience 
  • Experience working in a Communications team, preferably within a not-for-profit or government sector
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in content management systems, social media platforms and Monday.com (or similar)
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple stakeholders
