About the role

Our Workplace Relations and Employment team is seeking a passionate Senior Associate with a background in safety, to join our Brisbane team.

Working closely with our Partners, this is an excellent opportunity for a high-performing lawyer to continue growing their career and establish themselves as a recognised expert in the safety space. This role provides genuine autonomy and the ability to take ownership of your practice and client relationships.

A key focus of the role will be advising and representing employers in safety matters, including in prosecutions and dealings with regulators, and becoming a trusted first port of call for clients when workplace incidents occur. The role will also involve engaging with our established client base to provide effective, commercial advice and representation.

About you

You’re a confident practitioner with a keen interest in safety law, looking to develop your profile and contribute to our established practice.  You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

  • at least 4 years’ post-admission experience, or equivalent industry expertise;
  • experience advising employers in regulatory or incident based matters, including representation in prosecutions;
  • particular expertise in mine safety work will be highly regarded, but the position has a broad-based safety focus;
  • strong drafting skills, preferably gained in front‑end corporate or similar work;
  • solid experience in the employment-law space, with an emphasis upon acting for employers across the full spectrum of employment law disputes and in industrial matters;
  • solid litigation experience across relevant jurisdictions;
  • strong client relationship skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients;
  • a clear and confident approach, with a practical and solutions-focused mindset; and
  • exposure to safety law and a genuine interest in developing this practice area.
