Description

At Hiringa, we’re building the infrastructure and solutions that support the decarbonisation of heavy transport and industry. As our renewable energy projects continue to expand across New Zealand and Australia, we’re looking for an Operations Readiness & Support Specialist to help ensure our assets are safely commissioned, operationally ready, and performing at their best.

This is a unique opportunity for a practical, hands-on operations professional who enjoys solving problems, improving systems, and turning projects into high-performing operational assets. Working across both existing and new infrastructure, you’ll play a key role in connecting Engineering, Projects, Maintenance and Operations teams to deliver successful outcomes.

This role will involve working with projects across New Zealand and Australia so the preferred candidate will need to be able to travel on a regular basis.

About the Role

Reporting into the Operations team, you’ll work closely with our Asset and Maintenance team, Production Lead, and Engineering teams to support day-to-day operations, continuous improvement initiatives, operational readiness activities and small-scale project delivery.

You’ll help ensure new assets are introduced into service with the right systems, processes and documentation in place, while also supporting the performance, reliability and optimisation of assets already operating across our portfolio. There is some travel to various operational sites involved in the role.

What You’ll Be Doing

Operational Support & Problem Solving

  • Support day-to-day operational activities across Hiringa’s asset portfolio.
  • Investigate and resolve process and equipment issues from identification through to close-out.
  • Coordinate root cause analyses and corrective actions following operational incidents or equipment failures.
  • Track defects, warranty claims and performance guarantee obligations.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across operations and maintenance.
  • Support initiatives that enable the scaling of hydrogen production and delivery operations.

Operational Readiness & Asset Assurance

  • Support the successful transition of new greenfield assets from commissioning into business-as-usual operations.
  • Develop and implement systems and processes aligned with Hiringa’s asset management framework.
  • Coordinate operational readiness reviews and assurance activities with project, engineering and operational teams.
  • Ensure readiness actions are tracked, progressed and closed out.
  • Capture lessons learned from existing facilities and embed them into future projects.
  • Lead small operational improvement projects and support key initiatives, including the relocation of Hiringa’s mobile hydrogen refuelling site.

Systems, Documentation & Process Improvement

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions and maintenance documentation.
  • Support the development of operational systems that drive safe, reliable and efficient performance.
  • Contribute to the standardisation and continuous improvement of operational practices across the business.

What You’ll Bring

Experience

  • 5–10 years’ experience in operations, maintenance, commissioning or asset management within industrial, energy, utilities, manufacturing or related environments.
  • Experience working in operational environments where safety, reliability and performance are critical.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with contractors, vendors and multidisciplinary teams.

Technical Capability

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of commissioning, operational readiness and asset lifecycle management principles.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • An engineering qualification is advantageous but not essential.

Personal Attributes

  • A practical, hands-on approach with a strong bias for action.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative and able to build effective relationships across operations, projects and engineering teams.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and a commitment to operational excellence.
  • Comfortable working both in the field and across project and office-based activities.
