About the organisation

He Waka Tapu is a Kaupapa Māori organisation who have been supporting individuals and the community for 30 years. He Waka Tapu works to increase the health and wellbeing of Whānau.

About the role

This role is crucial in providing support to young people who are seeking positive life changes, helping to prevent further family violence and guiding them towards positive pathways.

The Rangatahi kaimahi will build strong, trusting relationships with rangatahi and their whānau, co-facilitating Kaupapa māori based programmes that support rangatahi to reflect, heal and develop new behaviours grounded in accountability, respect and growth.

Skills and experience

  • Experience working with at-risk youth, whānau support, social work, mentoring, or related roles.
  • Understanding of Te Ao Māori and tikanga, and experience working with diverse communities.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy of client records.
  • Passion for creating positive change in the lives of young offenders.
  • A full clean driver’s licence.
  • Alignment to He Waka Tapu values and core principles and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
