Who is Harbison?
Harbison is a charitable, community-owned, not-for-profit organisation that provides residential and non-residential care and support services for aged or disabled people, including a range of support services and systems to assist aged and disabled people to achieve maximum independence and integration within a residential or community setting, education and training of professionals and other care providers, and activities which are incidental or conducive to these objectives.
Currently, Harbison is an approved aged care provider, registered NDIS provider, approved childcare provider, retirement village owner, and one of the largest employers in the Southern Highlands. Primary purpose of the role
Housekeeping is responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control throughout the home. The role ensures that resident rooms, communal areas, and staff areas are cleaned and sanitized in accordance with organizational policies and health regulations to provide a safe and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
Key Accountabilities
Perform duties which includes, but is not limited to:
- Clean and sanitise resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, dining areas, and communal spaces in accordance with infection control standards and schedules
- Make and maintain resident beds as required, including changing linen, ensuring beds are clean, comfortable, and welcoming environment while respecting residents’ preferences, dignity, and privacy.
- Dust, vacuum, mop, and disinfect floors and high-touch surfaces to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
- Empty waste bins and dispose of general and clinical waste in line with facility procedures.
- Clean internal and external windows, furniture, fixtures, and fittings as required.
- Replenish consumables such as toilet paper, soap, hand towels, and other hygiene supplies.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation in staff areas, including offices, kitchens, and break rooms.
- Assist with laundry operations as required, including collecting, sorting, washing, drying, folding, and distributing linen and residents’ clothing in accordance with established processes.
- Support infection control practices within laundry services, ensuring proper handling and separation of soiled and clean items.
- Follow infection control procedures and safe cleaning practices.
- Use appropriate cleaning chemicals and equipment according to safety guidelines.
- Respond promptly to spills or contamination incidents.
- Follow workplace health and safety (WHS) procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) where required.
- Report hazards, maintenance issues, or safety concerns to supervisors.
- Ensure cleaning equipment is maintained, stored properly and maintain stock levels of cleaning supplies and notify supervisors when replenishment is needed.
- Respect residents’ privacy, dignity and personal belongings at all times.
- Work collaboratively with staff to support a positive and hygienic living environment.
- Adhere to organizational policies, procedures and code of conduct.
