ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a hands-on, delivery-focused engineering role responsible for building and maintaining the integrations that connect Hampshire Property Group’s operating systems across Australia and New Zealand. You’ll deliver reliable data movement between reservation, property management, contact centre, customer relationship and human resources platforms, while producing the endpoints and data feeds that support reporting, analytics and AI applications.

As our Integration Engineer, you’ll work to the architecture and engineering standards set by the AI Engineering Manager. You’ll analyse interfaces, build secure APIs and webhooks, create data feeds and MCP servers, support retrieval pipelines, and take accountability for the quality, testing, documentation and ongoing operation of the integrations you deliver.

Microsoft Azure will be central to the role. You’ll use services such as Azure Function Apps, Entra ID and other appropriate Azure integration and hosting technologies to build, secure, deploy and monitor production solutions.

You’ll join a small, collaborative AI Engineering team where secure engineering, disciplined release practices and operational continuity matter as much as getting the integration built.

What you’ll be doing

• Build, configure and deploy production integrations between business applications across Australia and New Zealand to agreed scope and timeframes.
• Design and deliver integration solutions using appropriate Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Function Apps, Entra ID and messaging, API management, secrets management and monitoring technologies.
• Analyse source and target systems and document data mappings, transformation rules, business logic and interface contracts before build begins.
• Apply established enterprise integration patterns, including asynchronous messaging, queues, publish-and-subscribe models, guaranteed delivery, routing, retries and dead-letter handling.
• Build and maintain secure API endpoints, webhooks and service connections, including OAuth 2.0 authentication, authorisation, rate limiting, version handling and event-driven patterns.
• Use Entra ID, managed identities, role-based access controls and other appropriate security controls to protect integrations and system access.
• Build and maintain MCP servers and approved integration endpoints that allow AI applications to interact securely with business systems.
• Package and deploy integration services using containers, maintaining the supporting configuration and deployment artefacts required for reliable operation.
• Produce and maintain source endpoints and extraction processes that deliver operational data into the organisation’s data lake or downstream platforms in agreed formats.
• Build data movement for AI applications, including content extraction, indexing and vectorisation, and validate retrieval quality after relevant source or configuration changes.
• Confirm data classification with the relevant data owner and apply the required handling controls before each integration goes live.
• Write and maintain automated integration and contract tests, scheduled beyond build time to detect changes in source and target schemas.
• Deliberately test failure and recovery behaviour, including retries, idempotency, partial failure, replay, message duplication and dead-letter handling, and document the recovery path.
• Implement automated production reconciliation using record counts and key field checks, with variances surfaced through a defined alert path.
• Validate changes in non-production environments with process owner sign-off before release, using masked or synthetic data where required.
• Monitor integrations in production, respond to business-hours failures and escalate through the agreed path outside those hours.
• Maintain source-controlled code, current issue records, implementation notes, handover packs and a complete operational runbook for every integration.
• Apply secrets management, least-privilege access, encrypted transfer, secure deployment and HPG’s data classification and AI governance requirements.
• Work with product, data, application and business stakeholders to confirm scope, avoid duplicated effort, validate outcomes and provide accurate sprint estimates and status updates.

What you’ll bring

• Demonstrated experience designing, building and operating integrations between business applications in a production environment.
• Strong hands-on capability in Python and SQL.
• Thorough knowledge of OAuth 2.0 and API security, including authentication, authorisation, token management and least-privilege access.
• Thorough understanding of enterprise integration patterns, including messaging queues, asynchronous processing, publish-and-subscribe models, guaranteed delivery, idempotency, retries and dead-letter handling.
• Strong practical experience with Microsoft Azure, particularly Azure Function Apps and Entra ID, along with relevant integration, messaging, security and monitoring services.
• Experience building and maintaining REST APIs, webhooks and event-driven integrations.
• Experience packaging and deploying applications or integration services using containers.
• Experience using source control, CI/CD pipelines and secure deployment practices.
• Demonstrated experience with automated integration testing, including error handling, retries, idempotency and recovery behaviour.
• Practical experience with AI or LLM-based applications, including vector databases, search indexes or retrieval pipelines.
• Strong analytical troubleshooting skills, particularly where failures cross system boundaries and the root cause is not immediately visible.
• Precision and attention to detail in data mapping, transformation, reconciliation and release work.
• Clear written communication and the discipline to document integrations to a standard from which another engineer can confidently operate.
• The ability to translate operational requirements into technical designs and drive assigned integrations to completion with limited supervision.
• Sound judgement on when to escalate, particularly in relation to data handling, privacy, security and compliance.
• A collaborative, adaptable approach and a commitment to secure, reliable and compliant engineering practices.
• Current right to work in Australia.

Desirable Experience or Exposure

• Azure Service Bus, API Management, Key Vault, Application Insights, Container Apps or comparable technologies.
• Docker, Kubernetes or another container orchestration or hosting platform.
• Production retrieval systems and the measurement and improvement of retrieval quality.
• Reservation, property management, contact centre, CRM or human resources platform integrations.
• Azure AI Search or comparable vector and search infrastructure.
• MCP servers or comparable AI tooling interfaces.
• Delivering operational data into a data lake or lakehouse for downstream consumption.
• Microsoft Power Platform and workflow automation.
• Property, communities, hospitality or another distributed operating environment.
• A relevant degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Information Systems, or equivalent industry experience.
