Position Overview: 

We are seeking experienced 1st Class Sheetmetal Worker and Insulators/Laggers to join our team and support major marine class renewal projects. We are also open to considering experienced 2nd Class Sheetmetal Workers and Insulators who have a strong background in marine fabrication and are looking to further develop their skills within a high-performing team.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on significant marine projects with the potential for the right candidates to transition into a permanent position. The role also offers opportunities for career growth and development across multiple disciplines.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

    Sheetmetal

  • Fabricate, install and repair sheetmetal components within a marine environment
  • Complete class renewal, maintenance and refurbishment scopes to a high standard
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and work instructions
  • Accurately measure, cut, form and install sheetmetal materials
  • Work with aluminium, stainless steel and other marine-grade materials
  • Insulation / Lagging

  • Install, repair and replace insulation and lagging systems within marine and industrial environments
  • Complete insulation and lagging works associated with pipework, ducting, machinery and equipment
  • Measure, cut and fit insulation materials to required specifications
  • Install cladding and jacketing where required
  • Work with a range of insulation materials and marine-grade finishes
  • Ensure insulation and lagging work is completed to project, quality and safety requirements

  • Maintain a high standard of workmanship and attention to detail
  • Follow all safety, quality and project requirements
  • Work collaboratively with trades, supervisors and project teams
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised work environment
  • Demonstrate reliability, initiative and a strong commitment to delivering quality outcomes

 

About You:

  • Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Sheet metal) or equivalent or relevant experience in insulation/lagging
  • 2+ years’ experience in sheetmetal, insulation or lagging, preferably within a marine, shipbuilding, defence or heavy industrial environment
  • Marine or shipbuilding experience highly regarded
  • Experience working with marine-grade materials is desirable
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and work instructions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality and workmanship
  • Physically fit with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Current White Card and Australian Driver’s Licence
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence Common Access Card (DCAC)
  • Confined Space, Working at Heights, EWP, Forklift and Fire Sentry tickets are desirable
