Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Coatings Inspector to oversee and manage painting and coating operations within our Darwin branch. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supervising painting activities, maintaining quality standards, ensuring compliance with safety requirements and driving project delivery outcomes across defence and commercial marine projects.
This is a locally based Darwin position and is not a FIFO role.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead a team of painters and blasters to achieve project milestones and production targets
- Coordinate daily painting and coating activities across multiple projects
- Ensure all work complies with safety procedures, environmental regulations and industry standards
- Conduct quality control inspections and address coating application issues or non-conformances
- Manage resources, equipment and materials to ensure operational readiness and efficiency
- Schedule works to meet project deadlines and client requirements
- Collaborate with Project Coordinators, subcontractors and clients to ensure seamless project delivery
- Mentor, train and develop team members while promoting best practice coating and preservation standards
- Implement proactive measures to improve productivity, quality and operational performance
- Complete project documentation, inspection reports and quality records as required
About You
Essential Requirements
- Minimum two years’ experience in a supervisory or leadership role within the painting and coatings industry with marine or defence industry experience highly regarded
- NACE Level 1 or Level 2 certification in Coating Inspection or Application. Candidates
with NACE Level 1 must be willing to obtain NACE Level 2 certification
- Certificate III in Surface Preparation and Coating Application or equivalent trade qualification
- White Card (General Construction Induction Card)
- Demonstrated experience managing painting operations, quality control and safety compliance
- Strong understanding of blasting and painting equipment and associated maintenance requirements
- Excellent leadership and team management skills
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation and industry standards
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments and at heights
Desirable Requirements
- Senior First Aid Certificate
- Working at Heights certification
- Confined Space Entry certification
- NACE Level 2 qualification
- Defence project experience
