Description

Join Gidgee Healing, an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service delivering culturally appropriate, holistic care across Northwest Queensland.

As part of headspace Mount Isa, you’ll support young people aged 12–25 to achieve better mental health, wellbeing and life outcomes through early intervention and accessible care.

About the Role

As a Psychologist, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based assessment and therapeutic services to young people experiencing mental health, trauma, alcohol and other drug issues, and social and emotional wellbeing challenges.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed care and contribute to integrated service delivery and clinical governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver psychological assessments, case formulation and evidence-based interventions
  • Provide therapeutic support for mental health, trauma, and complex presentations
  • Conduct risk assessments including suicide and crisis response
  • Manage a clinical caseload and maintain high-quality documentation
  • Collaborate with internal teams, families and external service providers
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and clinical governance activities
  • Contribute to service development, group programs and continuous improvement
  • Support culturally safe, trauma-informed and youth-centred practice
  • Travel occasionally to remote communities to provide outreach services

About You

You are a compassionate and skilled clinician committed to improving outcomes for young people.

You will bring:

  • General registration with AHPRA (Psychology Board of Australia)
  • Minimum 4-year APAC-accredited Psychology qualification
  • Eligibility for a Medicare Provider Number
  • Experience delivering evidence-based interventions and assessments
  • Strong understanding of youth mental health, trauma and complex presentations
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to culturally safe and trauma-informed practice
  • Strong clinical judgement and communication skills

Highly regarded:

  • Postgraduate qualification (e.g. Clinical Psychology)
  • Experience in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health or remote settings
  • Experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients

Requirements

  • Current Driver Licence
  • Blue Card (or ability to obtain)
  • National Police Check
  • Willingness to travel, including remote locations and overnight stays
