Site Assistant

Flintwood Disability | Flintwood Farm / Romein’s Retreat 15 hours per week | 3 hours per day, 5 days per week | Flexible scheduling available as required

Flintwood Disability is seeking a reliable, practical and hands-on Site Assistant to support the day-to-day care and maintenance of our farm environment at Flintwood Farm / Romein’s Retreat.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, caring for animals, maintaining gardens and grounds, and contributing to a clean, safe and welcoming environment for participants, staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Animal Care

  • Feed and provide fresh water to animals each day.
  • Monitor animal health and wellbeing, and report any concerns.
  • Clean and maintain animal enclosures, feeding areas, and water containers.
  • Ensure animal areas are clean, safe, and secure.

Garden & Grounds Maintenance

  • Assist with watering, weeding, planting, pruning, and general garden care.
  • Maintain lawns, pathways, and outdoor areas.
  • Remove garden waste and report any pest, disease, or maintenance concerns.
  • Assist with pool area cleaning and upkeep.

Farm & Site Maintenance

  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and well-presented farm environment.
  • Complete basic maintenance tasks and care for tools and equipment.
  • Help maintain animal enclosures, gardens, and farm facilities.
  • Report hazards, damaged equipment, or maintenance issues promptly.

B&B & Guest Accommodation

  • Prepare guest accommodation, including cleaning and making beds.
  • Assist with purchasing supplies and guest check-ins when required.
  • Ensure accommodation areas are clean, safe, and welcoming.

General Duties

  • Monitor and order site, garden, and animal care supplies.
  • Assist contractors and maintenance personnel as required.
  • Complete routine site duties, including waste management and general upkeep.

Work Health and Safety

The successful applicant will:

  • Follow Flintwood’s Work Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Use PPE, tools, equipment, and chemicals safely and as instructed.
  • Apply safe manual handling practices and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Report hazards, incidents, injuries, animal welfare concerns, and maintenance issues promptly.
  • Ensure all animal care, gardening, and farm activities are carried out safely.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Practical, hands-on, and willing to take initiative.
  • Interested in animal care, gardening, farm work, and outdoor environments.
  • Experienced in, or willing to learn, gardening, grounds maintenance, animal care, or similar practical skills.
  • Physically capable of performing routine outdoor and manual tasks safely.
  • Organised, detail-focused, and committed to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Knowledgeable about workplace safety, manual handling, and the safe use of tools and equipment.
  • Professional and respectful when working with participants, colleagues, visitors, and contractors.
