Grade Quality and Lab Manager

About the role

FGI Mining is seeking an experienced Grade Control, Quality and Laboratory Manager for a Cairns and Northwest QLD site-based role. The position will be responsible for grade control and monitoring of ore and waste throughout the value-adding process, overseeing laboratory testing requirements and establishing compliant sampling and testing programs to support accurate downstream decision-making.

The role will also oversee the establishment of a fully compliant laboratory for internal and third-party testing.

Key responsibilities

• Lead grade control and monitoring of ore and waste through the value-adding process
• Manage all laboratory testing requirements
• Establish compliant sampling and testing programs
• Ensure accurate and reliable data is available for downstream decision-making
• Establish and manage a compliant laboratory for internal and third-party testing
• Oversee laboratory construction, setup and delivery
• Manage laboratory staff, contractors and external testing providers
• Maintain strong quality, testing and compliance standards across operations
• Work closely with FGI staff and contractors to achieve operational requirements

What we’re looking for

• Tertiary in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or a closely related scientific discipline.
• Experience in grade control and laboratory management
• Tier 1 mining experience, including experience with BV, SGS or similar
• Experience in laboratory construction, establishment and delivery
• Strong understanding of grade control, sampling and testing requirements
• Strong technical and quality management skills
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
• Ability to lead FGI staff and contractors effectively
• Ability to work collaboratively within the broader FGI Mining group
