Description

A new kind of builder

Something genuinely new is happening in how organisations get work done. With platforms like Microsoft Copilot Studio, the people who create the most value aren’t necessarily the ones who write the most code, they’re the ones who understand a business problem deeply enough to know what a good AI agent should actually do, and then build it.

That’s the role we’re hiring for. You’ll design and build AI agents in Copilot Studio for a significant enterprise client, agents that automate real work, answer real questions, and make people’s jobs noticeably better. The hard part was never the clicking; it’s understanding the business well enough to know what’s worth building, where the value is, and where an agent might do more harm than good. So while this is a building role, it’s really an analyst’s role at heart: you’ll spend as much time understanding the client’s world and shaping requirements as you do assembling the solution.

This is an emerging area, so we’re not expecting a long CV of Copilot Studio experience. We’re looking for aptitude, business acumen, and a real passion for AI, someone who can pick this up fast and grow with it. You’ll sit in an established squad, report to our BA / Test Lead, and have a Principal Technologist across the workstream to lean on.

How we’re delivering value with AI

AI isn’t a side project at Enlighten, it’s central to who we are. We’re embedding AI across our delivery, we recently sponsored Outstanding AI Implementation at the Aotearoa AI Awards, and we’re investing in being one of New Zealand’s leaders in AI-enabled delivery. This role sits right at the sharp end of that: you’ll be building the AI capability our clients use.

For you, that means working with leading AI tools every day and helping prove, with real before-and-after, that AI delivers genuine value. We want people who are excited by that, who think critically about when and how to use AI, not just that it’s novel.

What this role is, and what it isn’t

It is a build-and-analyse role centred on Microsoft Copilot Studio, with a strong business analysis component, eliciting requirements, mapping process, and working directly with the client to shape what gets built. Some familiarity with Power Automate is beneficial, and you’ll grow your Power Platform skills over time, but this is largely about understanding the business and configuring smart solutions, not heavy custom code.

It isn’t a traditional software development role; there won’t be a lot of “classic” coding. And while a Principal Technologist oversees the workstream, you’ll be expected to develop the judgement to know when something (a data, security, or governance concern, for example) is worth raising rather than pushing through.

A week in your life

No two weeks are the same, but here’s a flavour:

Monday: You sit with client stakeholders to understand a manual process that’s eating their time. You ask the hard questions, map how it actually works today, and start sketching where an agent could help.

Tuesday: Heads-down in Copilot Studio, building and refining an agent: its topics, prompts, knowledge sources, and the conversation flows that make it genuinely useful.

Wednesday: You wire the agent into a workflow with Power Automate, test how it behaves with real-world inputs, and spot a data-access question worth flagging to the Principal Technologist before you go further.

Thursday: You demo progress to the client, gather feedback, and translate it into clear, prioritised requirements, being honest about what’s easy, what’s hard, and what’s not worth doing.

Friday: You document how the agent works so it can be supported and improved, and you experiment with a new Copilot Studio capability to see what it could unlock next.

What you’ll be doing

  • Designing and building AI agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio for a major enterprise client: topics, prompts, knowledge, and conversation flows
  • Eliciting requirements and mapping business processes so each agent solves a real problem, not just a surface one
  • Working directly with the client in a consulting capacity, running sessions, demoing progress, and framing options honestly
  • Integrating agents into wider workflows, with Power Automate (and growing Power Platform skills) where it adds value
  • Testing and refining agent behaviour with real-world inputs, and iterating based on feedback
  • Knowing when to raise data, security, or governance concerns with the Principal Technologist across the workstream
  • Bringing genuine business acumen, caring about whether what you build actually gets used and delivers value
  • Staying at the front of an emerging field, learning fast and helping shape how we do this well

What you bring

You don’t need years of Copilot Studio behind you; this is a new field. What matters is a sharp mind, real business sense, and genuine passion for AI.

  • Strong business acumen, you grasp how organisations work and what makes a process worth improving
  • A real, demonstrable passion for AI, you’re already exploring these tools and thinking about how they create value
  • Aptitude to learn platforms like Copilot Studio quickly (prior hands-on experience is a bonus, not a requirement)
  • Some exposure to Power Automate is beneficial; broader Power Platform familiarity is a nice-to-have
  • An analyst’s instincts, curiosity, good questions, and the ability to turn ambiguity into clear requirements
  • Clear communication, you can run a client conversation, explain a solution simply, and write things up clearly
  • Good judgement, you know when to push on and when to raise a concern
  • A relevant degree or equivalent practical experience is welcome, but attitude, aptitude, and passion matter most. This is unlikely to suit someone seeking a traditional, code-heavy developer role

Why you’ll want this role

  • Get in early on one of the most exciting, fast-growing areas in technology
  • Build real AI capability for a significant enterprise client, work that genuinely gets used
  • Be part of a firm betting strongly on AI-enabled delivery, working with leading AI tools every day
  • A Principal Technologist and a supportive squad to learn from as you grow into the discipline
  • Complex, high-value projects for enterprise clients across a wide range of industries
  • Work with an extraordinary group of people who treat talent as the organisation’s most valuable asset
  • Flexible working arrangements: hybrid from our Hamilton office (at least two to three days a week)
  • A collaborative, geeky environment where fun and technical innovation coexist daily (ask us about regular games sessions, hacky standups, or why all the ducks)
