The Role

As a Software Engineer, you’ll help build and evolve the technology behind our Employment Operating System, solving meaningful problems for millions of users. You’ll work alongside talented people who value collaboration, continuous learning and delivering great products. What you’ll do:

• Own problems end-to-end: Understand customer needs, design practical solutions, build, test and deploy them into production.
• Build reliable products: Develop and improve backend services, APIs and integrations, contributing across the stack when needed.
• Solve real challenges: Investigate technical problems, improve performance and deliver scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Build with AI: Use AI coding agents to accelerate development, explore solutions and improve delivery while maintaining quality.
• Make thoughtful decisions: Balance technical quality, simplicity and speed to deliver meaningful product outcomes.
• Grow together: Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams, share ideas, contribute to code reviews and continuously improve how we work.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong software engineering experience: Typically 5+ years building and delivering production applications, with demonstrated capability valued over years of experience.
• Solid backend expertise: Proficiency in at least one language such as Ruby, Python, Java, PHP or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Strong engineering fundamentals: Experience with RESTful APIs, databases, system design, automated testing and software development best practices.
• Problem-solving and ownership: Able to independently tackle well-defined problems, make sound technical decisions and seek input when needed.
• Product mindset: Curious about customer problems and motivated to build solutions that create real value.
• AI-first mindset: Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools or eager to make coding agents an essential part of how you work.
• Collaboration and communication: Proactive, adaptable and able to communicate effectively in English within a global, remote-first team.

We primarily build our applications using Ruby. Ruby experience isn’t required, and we’ll support you in developing the necessary skills when you join. We also encourage Engineers to expand their capabilities across the full stack.
