Description
Effective HR is a national HR and workplace relations consultancy made up of talented, driven professionals who put people at the heart of what we do, and that includes how we grow our own team.
As we grow, our priority is finding people who share our values, bring strong expertise and take pride in delivering great work. We’re open to different strengths and specialisations, and we have the flexibility to build a role around the right person. We’d love to explore how your experience and interests could complement our team and support our clients.
You don’t need to be an expert in everything we do. You might love complex industrial relations questions, thrive on workplace investigations, or enjoy getting payroll and systems working as they should. We’re interested in what you do best and what you enjoy most.
What we do:
We support businesses across a broad range of industries, with particular expertise in NDIS and community-focused organisations. We do everything from being a trusted “phone-a-friend” for everyday HR questions to managing complex workplace matters and large-scale projects. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, we get to know our clients and provide practical, commercially realistic solutions tailored to their needs.
Across our team, our work includes:
- Industrial relations (IR): Interpreting legislation, modern awards and enterprise agreements, advising on employment obligations, and supporting clients through industrial disputes and Fair Work Commission matters.
- Employee relations (ER): Managing grievances, conducting workplace investigations, supporting clients with performance and misconduct concerns, and responding to general protections claims.
- Payroll remediation: Auditing payroll compliance, identifying and calculating underpayments, and helping clients rectify issues and prevent them from happening again.
- HR and payroll systems implementation: Implementing and improving platforms such as Employment Hero, ELMO and other systems, including process design, configuration, testing and training.
- HR consulting: Supporting the employment lifecycle through day-to-day advice, outsourced HR management, tailored documentation and strategic projects.
At our heart, we’re a team of self-confessed HR, IR and ER nerds who enjoy untangling complex problems and turning them into clear, actionable advice.
Tell us in your application which areas interest you most and where your strengths lie. These are our collective capabilities, not a checklist you need to tick.
Why we’re special:
We’re built different by leaders who care. We live our values with empathy and integrity. When we say this job is ‘flexible’, we actually mean it. Here’s how:
- Choose your hours: pick and set your desired work hours and days (we are looking for approximately 24 – 32 hours per week), offered on a permanent on-going basis.
- Manage your own schedule: own your diary and appointments, guaranteeing time that’s important for you: get to school drop offs and pickups, gym and yoga classes, and lunch dates with friends.
- No unpaid additional hours: get paid for every minute you’re at your desk.
- 100% remote work: no office attendance, client site, or travel required.
- Not a call centre: our HR on demand service means you are not required to be ‘on queue’ in a call centre environment.
- No sales targets: you are not expected to bring in new business, and your employment is not linked to any client service or project (something that is common in the professional consulting industry).
- Life happens: increase and decrease your work hours collaboratively as need be.
What you’d be doing:
That will depend on what you bring to the team. We’ll work with you to shape your responsibilities around your areas of expertise, the work you enjoy and the needs of our clients.
Your role could focus on complex IR advice, employee relations and workplace investigations, terminations, general protection claims, payroll remediation, HR and payroll systems implementation, or general HR consulting. It might be a dedicated specialisation or a mix of areas, we don’t expect you to do it all.
Whatever your focus, you’ll build trusted client relationships, take ownership of your matters and projects, and deliver clear, practical solutions. You’ll work independently, with a talented and supportive team alongside you to share ideas, draw on each other’s expertise and deliver wow-worthy work.
Who you are:
We’re looking for someone special. Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate:
- Extensive (minimum 10 years’) experience operating as a HR professional, ideally with a consulting background.
- Proven ability to provide accurate and practical advice across a wide range of topics.
- Strong knowledge of Awards with demonstrated expertise in accurate interpretation and application.
- Exceptional attention to detail, professional writing style, and Microsoft Office skills.
- A client-centric mindset with a strong focus on delivering excellent service.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen and sound decision-making skills.
