The Opportunity

As a Principal Engineer, you will play a key leadership role within the business, providing technical direction across complex and specialised engineering projects while contributing to the strategic growth of DCE. Reporting to the General Manager and Directors, you will lead design teams, verify engineering outputs, mentor developing engineers, and champion technical excellence across the organisation.

You Will:

  • Lead the delivery of complex and specialised engineering projects, undertaking detailed design, modelling, technical assessments and design verification autonomously.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship across design teams, supporting professional development and knowledge sharing.
  • Manage project-based design delivery, ensuring technical excellence, quality outcomes, budget performance and efficient resource allocation.
  • Review and verify plans, reports, modelling and engineering documentation, providing guidance and feedback to team members.
  • Participate in leadership, resourcing and budget meetings, contributing to business planning, innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support tender submissions for specialist projects through technical input, capability assessments and resource planning.
  • Conduct performance reviews, support team development and contribute to succession planning within the engineering team.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, authorities and industry stakeholders while representing DCE at meetings and industry events.
  • Drive compliance with HSEQ requirements and contribute to the ongoing improvement of design standards, systems and engineering practices.

About You (Skills, Experience & Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent.
  • Registered Professional Engineer and Chartered Engineer (current).
  • Extensive experience delivering complex civil engineering projects and leading multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and 12d.
  • Demonstrated specialist technical expertise in areas such as sports infrastructure, VicRoads/DTP projects, WSUD, advanced modelling, or similar disciplines.
  • Strong leadership experience including mentoring, coaching, performance management and team development.
  • Proven ability to verify engineering designs and sign plans as a Registered Engineer.
  • Management and leadership training completed or actively being undertaken.
  • MRWA DAS Accreditation (or equivalent) highly regarded.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted client relationships.
  • Permanent right to work in Australia.
