About the role:

To provide Home and Community Care Services to all eligible clients in the Aboriginal community in an endeavour to improve their quality of life and maintain their lifestyle in their own homes within the designated catchment area of the Co-operative.

In this fulfilling role as a part-time Personal Care Assistant working in the Aged Care and Disability team, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing Home and Community Services to all eligible clients in the Aboriginal community in an endeavour to improve their quality of life and maintain their lifestyle in their own homes within the designated catchment area of the Co-operative. 
  • Ensuring that Aged and Disability Care services are provided to Aboriginal clients in compliance with the standards outlined in the guidelines, including but not limited to:
  • Personal care assistance; shopping and budgeting.
  • House cleaning assistance.
  • Meal preparation.
  • Transport assistance, i.e., funerals, etc.
  • Social or recreational activities (Planned Activity Group or Individual activities)
  • Providing support to Aboriginal community members and their carers who are receiving assistance through the Aged and Disability Care program (CHSP & HACC PYP).
  • Completing daily service delivery data and statistics as required.
  • Attending Aged Care and Disability team meetings and general staff meetings, including participating in DDACL’s quality, risk, compliance, planning, and OHS frameworks.
  • To act at all times professionally in accordance with the policies and practices of the Co-operative, including ensuring the utmost confidentiality and privacy of client information at all times.

Qualifications:

    • A Certificate III in Home and Community Care, Individual Support or Disability.
    • A level Two First Aid Certificate with CPR.
    • Good written and oral skills and basic computer skills.

Essential Criteria

Must identify as First Nations Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander – This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identified Position, classified under ‘special measures’ of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).

  • Ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people and to handle cultural issues in a sensitive manner.
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a small team.
  • Highly developed appreciation of the cultural, emotional and spiritual well-being of the Aboriginal community.
  • Ability to understand and promote the philosophy and needs for Aboriginal health services and programs.
