Description

Kuro Bar & Dining is seeking an experienced Senior Sous Chef to join our kitchen leadership team in a full-time role.

Kuro is a contemporary Japanese restaurant located on Kent Street in the Sydney CBD. The venue delivers refined, ingredient-led dining across structured lunch and dinner services, combining disciplined Japanese technique with Australian seasonal produce and international influences.

The restaurant services corporate clients, private celebrations and premium group bookings and operates as part of the Lounge 368 hospitality group alongside its sister venue, Kahii.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced chef to support the Head Chef in leading daily kitchen operations, maintaining high culinary standards and supervising kitchen staff.

Position Overview

The Senior Sous Chef supports the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations and coordinating food preparation across all service periods.

This is a senior role responsible for supervising kitchen workflow, ensuring food quality standards are maintained and supporting the implementation of seasonal menus within a structured commercial kitchen environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assisting the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations and supervising kitchen staff • Coordinating preparation and cooking activities during service periods • Supporting the implementation of seasonal menus and kitchen preparation systems • Maintaining food quality, presentation standards and consistency of dishes • Assisting with food cost control, stock management and supplier ordering • Supervising kitchen sections and supporting the training of junior chefs • Ensuring compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace safety regulations • Supporting efficient kitchen organisation and preparation across lunch and dinner services

About You

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a professional commercial kitchen • Experience supervising kitchen staff and coordinating service • Strong organisational and communication skills • Understanding of contemporary culinary techniques and kitchen operations • Ability to maintain food quality standards in a high-volume service environment • Knowledge of food safety and kitchen compliance standards • Strong work ethic and passion for hospitality

Experience working with Japanese cuisine or contemporary Asian flavours will be highly regarded.
