Position Summary
As an Executive Interpreter, your primary responsibility will be to provide internal interpreting services for Deaf/Hard of Hearing staff in an ethical manner. Executive Interpreters exemplify the ideals reflected in ASLITA’s Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Professional Conduct, as well as Convo’s Mission and Core Values. In doing so, you are responsible for the following:
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate strict adherence to industry-wide and professional ethics at all times
- Maintain the confidentiality of information exchanged in an interpreting situation
- Observe Convo’s internal policies and procedures at all times
- Contribute to the development and high morale of the company
- Maintain a friendly, professional appearance in accordance with internal guidelines
- Demonstrate a continuous commitment to professionalism, punctuality, and reliability
- As a Full-Time employee, be available for assignments during operating hours (8:00 am – 5:00 pm AEST/AEDT with a one hour scheduled meal break, Monday through Friday) while maintaining flexibility to accept assignments occurring outside of these hours
- Efficiently set up and use computer technology for the purposes of communicating with team members as well as facilitation of video conference interpreting
- Schedule and allocate interpreters to assignments, ensuring appropriate skill matching, operational efficiency, and high-quality service delivery; this involves liaising with interpreters, internal stakeholders, and external agencies as required
- Participate in and lead mentoring, professional development, and organisational projects that support interpreter capability, continuous improvement, and excellence in interpreting services
- Other duties as assigned (not to conflict with responsibilities associated with serving in the role of Interpreter)
Interpreting Settings
Provide excellent Auslan/English interpretation services in a professional and competent manner within a variety of settings, register, and formats. This is primarily a remote video interpreting role, working solo, with occasional opportunities for on site interpreting.
Settings:
- Video Conference meetings (primary)
- On-site meetings (occasional)
- Teaming with other interpreters
- Other unique settings
Scope of work:
- Interpreting for corporate employees, including the CEO of Australia
- Group sizes ranging from two to thirty or more participants
- Subject matter ranging from light daily assignments to highly complex business, marketing, and technology strategy discussions
- Engagement with international team members.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- NAATI CI Certification
- Three years (minimum) consecutive experience interpreting professionally as an Auslan/ English sign language Interpreter, preferably in corporate/professional settings
- Demonstrate expressive and receptive fluency with both Auslan and English
- High level of adaptability for working with diverse populations, as well as with leveraging various models of on-site, remote, and team interpreting
- Exemplary interpersonal skills
- Openness to providing and receiving constructive feedback, support, and mentoring in a professional and positive manner
- Have the experience, knowledge, and skills necessary to work in a solitary, fast-paced, environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills in all settings
- Understanding of and willingness to keep up with video technology, trends, and issues
- Ability and confidence to succeed both independently and in team settings
- Intermediate of computer technology
Equipment & Network Requirements
- Ethernet connection is required.
- Internet speeds must be at a minimum of 10 MBPS upload / 10 MBPS download required

Salary:
$105,000 – $110,000 full time or part time equivalent + Superannuation
