Are You The Rare Gem We’re Looking For 💎
Experienced Disability Support Worker – Complex SIL- Community Care Foundation
Not every disability support worker is suited to every home. And that’s okay.
At Community Care Foundation, we’re searching for an exceptional Disability Support Worker to join a unique Supported Independent Living (SIL) environment supporting two housemates with very different personalities, support needs and life experiences.
This is a role requiring emotional intelligence, maturity, compassion, consistency and excellent professional judgement.
We’re looking for someone who can navigate complexity with confidence, maintain a sense of humour and understand that some of the most important skills in disability support aren’t found on a certificate.
What makes you the right fit?
You’re someone who:
– Remains calm, level-headed and emotionally regulated in challenging situations.
– Demonstrates genuine compassion, empathy and respect.
– Has experience supporting individuals with complex mental health challenges, trauma histories and acquired brain injury (ABI).
– Understands trauma-informed, person-centred approaches.
– Can follow Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs) consistently and understands the importance of agreed strategies, professional boundaries and individualised supports.
– Understands dignity of risk and how it works alongside choice, control, duty of care and participant rights.
– Maintains clear, healthy professional boundaries without compromising warmth or connection.
– Recognises when to seek guidance and is comfortable asking for help.
– Welcomes constructive feedback and confidently communicates when existing approaches may need review.
– Can prioritise competing demands, manage time effectively and adapt quickly within a dynamic household.
– Brings a healthy sense of humour and the ability to build authentic, respectful relationships.
What we value
We value support workers who think before they react, listen before they assume and understand that consistency and trust are fundamental to quality support.
We don’t expect you to know everything.
We do expect you to be accountable, reflective, willing to learn and committed to working collaboratively.
Most importantly, we need someone who understands that compassion and boundaries go hand in hand.
Essential requirements
– Demonstrated experience supporting people with complex disability and psychosocial support needs.
– Ability to understand and implement individual support plans and PBSPs.
– Strong communication, documentation and incident-reporting skills.
– Commitment to participant rights, confidentiality and professional standards.
– Required NDIS Worker Screening clearance and relevant employment checks.
– Current First Aid and CPR qualifications, or willingness to obtain them.
– Relevant qualifications in Disability, Individual Support, Mental Health or Community Services are highly regarded.
