Description
At Chosen Family, we believe great support is about more than completing tasks. It is about building trust, creating genuine human connection, encouraging independence and helping each person live life on their own terms.
We are looking for a calm, patient, reliable and compassionate Female Disability Support Worker to provide ongoing support to a 61-year-old male participant in North Sydney.
This is an opportunity to become a consistent and trusted part of someone’s support network while helping them maintain their independence, confidence and connection with the community.
About the Participant
The participant lives with an acquired brain injury (ABI) and OCD and benefits from a support approach that is calm, structured, predictable and consistent.
The successful Support Worker will assist him to:
- Maintain his independence at home and in the community
- Stay engaged throughout the day
- Participate in meaningful activities
- Access the community
- Maintain routines and daily living skills
- Work towards his goal of continuing to live at home as independently as possible
This role is particularly suited to someone who genuinely enjoys companionship, conversation and relationship-based support.
The participant has an interest in current affairs, history and politics, so someone who enjoys thoughtful conversations and can develop genuine rapport will be highly valued.
The Person We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is more than simply reliable — someone who can become a consistent, trusted and positive presence in the participant’s life.
You will ideally be:
- Calm and patient
- Warm, respectful and compassionate
- Emotionally regulated and reassuring
- Reliable and consistent
- Observant and attentive to changes in mood or behaviour
- Comfortable working independently
- Able to take appropriate initiative without constant direction
- Respectful of routines and the importance of predictability
- A good conversationalist and listener
- Comfortable supporting someone who may experience anxiety, frustration or distress
- Committed to promoting independence rather than creating unnecessary dependence
An understanding of OCD, acquired brain injury, structured routines and predictable support environments will be highly regarded.
Female Support Worker Preferred
A female Support Worker is preferred for this participant.
The participant also prefers a non-smoking Support Worker who does not have pets.
Community Access – Vehicle Required
A reliable vehicle and valid Australian driver’s licence are required for this role.
Community access is an important part of the support, and the successful Support Worker will need to be able to assist the participant with community outings, appointments and other activities as required.
You should be comfortable driving the participant to appropriate community destinations and supporting safe and meaningful participation outside the home.
Support Schedule
Monday – Sunday (6–8 hours per shift)
There is flexibility across the week, and Support Workers are encouraged to indicate the days and times they are available.
We are particularly interested in people who can offer consistent and ongoing availability, as continuity is important for this participant.
