Associate – Professional Liability

The Team

This role sits within the Professional Liability team, led by Partners Michael Bath and Julie Bowker, working across three sub-areas: professional indemnity, D&O and management liability. The team handles claims made against professionals across all industries, acting for some of Australia’s largest corporations and international insurers on complex, high-value matters.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Associate to join this team. You will be mentored by senior specialists as you build strong client relationships and develop your expertise across a varied and intellectually engaging caseload spanning the full spectrum of professional liability.

What you’ll be doing

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Managing a varied caseload of professional liability matters end to end, with Partner oversight
• Drafting correspondence, pleadings, formal opinions and legal documents
• Advising clients directly and contributing to matter strategy
• Participating in negotiations, mediations and court proceedings
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships
• Supporting business development — staying across industry issues and building your network
• Mentoring and supervising law graduates and junior solicitors in the team
• Contributing to firm publications, internal training sessions and knowledge sharing

Essential Experience and Criteria

• 3+ years post-admission experience in professional liability, insurance litigation or commercial litigation
• LLB or equivalent and a current (or eligible) NSW Practising Certificate
• Demonstrated ability to manage a caseload independently and meet deadlines
• Experience drafting legal documents, pleadings and formal opinions
• Exposure to negotiations, mediations or court proceedings
• Experience working directly with clients and managing client relationships
