We operate across Australia, with major base locations in NSW, and the NT. Our specially trained Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics, Pilots and Aircrew Officers use helicopters, turbo prop aircraft, Aeromedical jets and patient transport vehicles to provide critical support to over 8,500 patients each year. We also deploy medical professionals and aircraft in support of defence, government and commercial contracts, and energy and resource sector sites.
The role:
We currently have an exciting opportunity for Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Specialists to join the organisation and be a key member of CareFlight’s team of Specialists and Registrars working with NSW Ambulance on the Medical Services Agreement (MSA) at Bankstown and Orange.
Reporting to the Director NSW Medical Services, the key objective for this role will be to ensure the highest standard of patient care within the out-of-hospital environment is provided, organisational objectives are achieved and participating within the clinical data process and clinical quality assurance activities. You will also:
• provide a high level of medical and logistical decision making in a compressed time frame, with great attention to detail.
• carry out duties in accordance with the protocols and procedures provided by NSW Ambulance.
• be able to undertake an increased number of shifts during Registrar change over periods (February and August) to assist with roster coverage.
The roster includes a balanced mix of day, evening and night shifts both weekday and weekend conducted in winch capable helicopters, fixed wing aircraft and road ambulance vehicles. The minimum number of shifts is one (1) or two (2) per week. You will also be required to contribute to the management, education, equipment or clinical governance of CareFlight by maintaining a portfolio of interest to you.
About you:
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
Essential
• Specialist in Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine or Intensive Care.
• Current Specialist Medical Registration with AHPRA.
• Previous Pre-Hospital and Retrieval experience (as a Registrar or Specialist) with a minimum of 12 months and 100 missions completed in NSW.
• Extensive experience and proven ability in the management of critically ill patients including trauma. both within the hospital and within the out-of-hospital environment, including patient transportation.
• Current or recent experience in managing critically ill / injured paediatric patients.
• Successful completion of CareFlight’s pre-employment physical assessment.
• Successful completion of pre-employment DAMP screening.
• Completion of EMST/ ATLS / ETM or equivalent.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team.
• Maintain above average physical fitness.
• Ability to work in conjunction with other emergency services.
• Interest and willingness to participate in research and/or clinical governance activities.
• Ability to pass and maintain HUET.
Desirable
• Recognised post-graduate qualification in Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine, or willingness to undertake.
• Demonstrated research experience.
• Demonstrated experience and interest in Education.
• Completion of Paediatric Advance Life Support course, or equivalent.
