Description

Disability Support Worker

Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable and dedicated Disability Support Worker to provide high-quality, person-centred support to people with disability.

The successful candidate will assist clients with daily living activities, provide emotional and practical support, and promote independence, choice, dignity and community participation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with personal care and daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting
  • Provide emotional support, companionship and respectful person-centred care
  • Support clients with mobility, transfers and transportation
  • Drive clients to appointments, community activities and other approved locations when required
  • Assist with medication in accordance with individual support plans, company policies and relevant training
  • Monitor clients’ health and wellbeing and report any changes or concerns
  • Assist with meal preparation, cleaning, laundry and other household tasks
  • Follow individual support plans, behaviour support plans and risk management procedures
  • Apply safe manual handling techniques when assisting with transfers, mobility and positioning
  • Support clients to participate in social, recreational and community activities
  • Work collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals, support coordinators and other stakeholders
  • Complete progress notes, incident reports and other required documentation accurately and promptly
  • Maintain client privacy, confidentiality, dignity, choice and independence
  • Report incidents, hazards, injuries and safeguarding concerns to management immediately
  • Comply with NDIS Practice Standards, organisational policies and workplace health and safety requirements

Essential Requirements

  • A valid Australian driver licence
  • Access to a reliable and roadworthy vehicle for work-related travel
  • Current vehicle registration
  • Current comprehensive motor vehicle insurance
  • A valid NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates
  • Current Manual Handling training
  • Medication Administration or Medication Assistance training
  • The legal right to work in Australia
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in English
  • Ability to write accurate progress notes, incident reports and other support documentation
  • Ability to use a smartphone and relevant mobile applications for rostering, communication and record-keeping
  • Availability to work a range of shifts, including weekends, public holidays, sleepovers and active night shifts where required

Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate III or Certificate IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services or a related field is highly regarded
  • Previous experience supporting people with disability is preferred
  • Experience providing personal care and community access support
  • Experience supporting clients with complex needs or behaviours of concern is desirable
  • Understanding of person-centred support, duty of care, dignity of risk and informed choice
  • Knowledge of disability rights, safeguarding and advocacy
  • Understanding of the NDIS and relevant quality and safeguarding requirements

  • PEG feeding training
