The role
We’re seeking an experienced Australian Architectural Graduate to join our Brisbane studio and contribute to transformative retail, mixed-use, and multi-residential projects.
Assist with the design and delivery of high-profile architectural projects from concept through delivery including documentation, master planning, urban design, placemaking.
Ideally suited to an all-rounder, with design, delivery and technical ability you should be able to present your schemes with sketches and be confident with multiple software and presentation techniques.
As an Architectural Graduate you will utilise your design / technical skills to achieve project delivery in accordance with Buchan’s quality systems.
Key Responsibilities
Design
- Contribute to evolving the design through the project life cycle;
- Develop concepts using freehand sketch, presentation packages and documentation tools;
- Under direction collaborate with project teams and other consultants to ensure that ongoing works are consistent with the original design intent.
Documentation + Coordination
- Early Design/DA Stage documentation;
- Under direction, develop detailed and accurate drawings, 3D models, and presentation materials in line with Buchan’s standards and protocols, using Revit, Rhino, and Adobe Creative Suite;
- Present design concepts to team and stakeholders with clarity and confidence;
- Be involved in the coordination of specialist consultants, contractors, suppliers and services.
Project Skills
- Access and apply building codes, standards and compliance;
- Develop product and material knowledge;
- Develop skills in team collaboration and communication;
- Be involved in producing preliminary reports and feasibility studies;
- Under supervision, prepare specifications, schedules, detailed components, finishes and fittings.
Project Management
- Understand and meet required project timelines and deliverables while maintaining design excellence;
- Conduct research on new materials, technologies, and construction methods, and apply this knowledge to projects.
Financial
- Manage time and workload within allocated project hours;
- Complete timesheets and project administration as required.
Professional Development
- Actively seek out industry trends and innovations, professional and technical developments and make an effort to expand industry knowledge and skill set;
- Begin to develop networks and industry relationships;
- Participate in office-wide professional development activities.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Architecture or equivalent qualification, recognised in Australia.
- Minimum experience 4-5yrs post-Masters (Registration an advantage).
- Preferred experience with large or complex projects in retail, mixed-use or multi-residential sectors.
- Must have proficiency in Revit and an understanding of BIM workflows.
- Preferred experienced user in Sketchup, Rhino, Photoshop, InDesign.
- Working knowledge of building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of architecture.
- Working knowledge of building materials, their function and physical properties, and construction methods.
- Working knowledge of building costs.
- A creative mindset with a keen eye for detail and functionality.
- Good communication, collaboration and project management skills and the ability to engage confidently with consultants and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and timelines.
- Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
