This is a hands-on working-manager role requiring a strong operational presence, sound judgement and the ability to lead a shift-based team in a regulated aviation environment. The successful applicant will maintain their operational competency and provide operational coverage where required, while remaining focused on the position’s primary management, compliance and leadership responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include:

- Coordinating aviation security, airside access and routine interfaces with the aviation security screening contractor.
- Managing operational readiness for international arrivals, departures and diversions.
- Coordinating operational training, appointments, competency and currency requirements.
- Managing terminal readiness, passenger flow, baggage interfaces and routine stakeholder matters.
- Ensuring operational vehicles, radios, emergency equipment and inspection equipment remain serviceable and available.
- Maintaining effective working relationships with airlines, ground handlers, contractors, regulators, emergency services and other airport stakeholders.
The position includes participation in approved on-call and after-hours response arrangements.
About the Person We Seek
We are looking for an experienced aviation operations professional who can provide practical leadership while maintaining a strong focus on operational safety, aviation security, regulatory compliance and service continuity.

The successful applicant will have:
- Demonstrated experience in aerodrome or airside operations within a regulated aviation environment.
- Experience leading a shift-based workforce, including rostering, performance management, training and competency.
- Strong working knowledge of CASR Part 139 and the Part 139 Manual of Standards.
- Sound working knowledge of the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004 and Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005, including airport security, access control, ASIC and VIC requirements.
- Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety obligations and safety management principles.
- Experience with aerodrome inspections, NOTAMs, airside permits, works control, incident response, operational records and corrective actions.
- Sound operational judgement and the ability to make timely decisions and escalate significant matters appropriately.
- Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder-management skills.
- The ability to maintain accurate and auditable operational and compliance records.
- Aerodrome Reporting Officer and Works Safety Officer training, together with an Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate and current first-aid certification, or the willingness to obtain any outstanding requirements within an agreed period.
- A current unrestricted C Class driver’s licence.
The successful applicant must be eligible for appointment as an Aerodrome Reporting Officer at BIA, be able to obtain and maintain an Aviation Security Identification Card, and satisfy BIA’s police check, medical, drug and alcohol, and other employment requirements.
