The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Clinical Nurse Coach for Operating Theatres, working rostered and rotating shifts.
Reporting to the Nurse Advisor, Clinical Education & PDRP, the Clinical Nurse Coach works in a supernumerary capacity at the point of care, providing a safe, proactive and welcoming learning environment that encourages and supports development of clinical knowledge and skills.
Responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

clinical induction: facilitating structured new employee orientation, in collaboration with preceptors, Clinical Nurse Leads, the Associate Theatre Managers, and other members of the team.

preceptor/learning support: coaching new and existing nurses to consolidate ongoing practice learning on identified knowledge and skill gaps to develop confidence and competence to become highly functional and flexible operating theatre nurses.

clinical skills development: providing hands-on, just-in-time clinical support and guidance, to new and existing nurses across all aspects of care delivery in the operating theatres.

mandatory training: facilitating competency certification, and skills verification in partnership with specific topic link/resource people, conducting train-the-trainer sessions for relevant areas of mandatory training.

safe practice: working alongside operating theatre nurses in direct clinical care delivery promoting evidence-based practice, role modelling excellent theatre nursing practice to support clinical decision making and professional development.
To be successful in this role
Essential
- Current registration and Registered Nurse annual practising certificate with Nursing Council of New Zealand.
- A minimum of five years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the operating theatre setting in New Zealand.
- Proven teaching and coaching abilities at the point of care, and ability to demonstrate patient care management skills across multiple surgical specialties.
- Current proficient level or above nursing portfolio achieved via a Nursing Council of New Zealand-approved Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP).
- Preceptorship and Assessor’s course completion with clear evidence of precepting with influence on patient safety.
- A genuine passion for continuous learning and development, including an ability to inspire others to grow and improve.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work within a team and establish meaningful relationships.
- Being approachable and proactive with a positive attitude.
- Excellent facilitation, coordination and time management skills.
- Commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Desired
- Post Graduate Certificate/Diploma in Adult Teaching/Education, or willing to work towards.
- Skills in clinical development and evaluation of training.
