About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Metallurgy team, where you can make a real impact on processing performance, metallurgical improvement and the development of our people.
We are looking for a motivated and experienced metallurgical professional to join our team. Whether you are an established Metallurgy Superintendent or an experienced Senior Metallurgist, we are keen to hear from you.
Reporting to the Manager Processing, you will play a key role in optimising plant performance, improving metallurgical processes and supporting the delivery of production, recovery and quality targets. You will work closely with operations, maintenance and technical teams to identify opportunities, solve problems and drive continuous improvement across the processing plant.
Depending on your experience, you will also have the opportunity to provide technical leadership, mentor and develop team members, and contribute to the ongoing growth and capability of our metallurgy function.
This is a great opportunity to bring your ideas, technical expertise and leadership skills to a team focused on improving performance, developing people and achieving strong operational outcomes.
The position is offered on a preferred 12/9 roster, with the possibility of FIFO/DIDO. Variations to this roster may be considered.
Core responsibilities
- Monitor and optimise metallurgical performance to achieve recovery, production and product quality targets.
- Review metallurgical data, plant trends and operating parameters to identify improvement opportunities and address performance variations.
- Provide technical support and guidance to processing operations, troubleshooting metallurgical issues and implementing practical solutions.
- Develop, review and improve metallurgical operating practices, procedures and plant control strategies.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant performance, process stability, metal recovery and operational efficiency.
- Prepare and review metallurgical reports, reconciliations, forecasts and performance analysis to support operational decision-making and business planning.
- Work collaboratively with Processing, Maintenance and other site teams to improve plant reliability, performance and overall business outcomes.
- Contribute to metallurgical test work, plant trials and the evaluation and implementation of process improvement projects.
- Support the development, coaching and mentoring of metallurgists and processing personnel, sharing knowledge and building technical capability across the team.
- For candidates with suitable leadership experience, provide direction and leadership to the metallurgy team, setting priorities, coordinating workloads and supporting individual and team development.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement, encouraging new ideas and challenging existing practices where better outcomes can be achieved.
- Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
About you
You are a proactive and solutions-focused metallurgical professional who enjoys working closely with operations to improve plant performance and deliver results. You combine strong technical knowledge with practical problem-solving skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across site.
You will ideally have tertiary qualifications in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline, along with experience in a processing plant or similar metallurgical environment and a sound understanding of plant performance, recovery optimisation and metallurgical accounting. You will have the ability to analyse metallurgical data, identify improvement opportunities and translate technical findings into practical operational outcomes, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with operators, technical specialists and leaders across the business. A continuous improvement mindset, the confidence to question established practices and recommend better ways of working, and a commitment to developing your own skills and supporting the growth and capability of others are also important.
Experience in leading or supervising a metallurgy team will be highly regarded. Equally, we welcome applications from experienced Senior Metallurgists who are looking to broaden their responsibilities and progress into a leadership role.
Safety is a priority for you, and you actively contribute to creating a safe, respectful and positive workplace. You take ownership of your work, adapt well to changing priorities and enjoy being part of a team working towards shared goals.
