About Us
For over 60 years, Animal Welfare League NSW (AWL NSW) has been a leading registered charity dedicated to providing expert care for surrendered, neglected, and abandoned companion animals across NSW.
The Opportunity
Join our dedicated team as a Full-Time Veterinary Surgeon. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a new graduate starting out, we’ll support you to thrive and grow with us. Select part-time opportunities may also be considered depending on the applicant.
The role will be primarily based at our Kemps Creek Veterinary Clinic, where no two days are the same. You’ll care for shelter animals rescued by our Inspectors or surrendered by their owners, while also supporting the wider community with privately owned pets. From routine check-ups to complex cases, you’ll see a broad range of patients with the chance to expand your skills working across varied species, all with the guidance and support of our experienced vets and nursing team.
As part of the team, you’ll participate in a weekend rotation (approximately one weekend every six weeks) and have the chance to work on our Mobile Vet Clinic. This unique opportunity allows you to travel to regional communities to deliver subsidised de-sexing, vaccinations and microchipping services. During times of crisis, the Mobile Vet Clinic is also deployed to support communities during natural disasters such as bushfires and floods, providing veterinary care, animal shelter, and vital supplies.
Responsibilities:
• Provide veterinary care through examinations, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
• Perform surgical and medical procedures.
• Conduct diagnostic testing, including radiography and pathology.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, legislative, and WHS requirements.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and communicate updates to clients and stakeholders.
• Prepare evidence for legal cases and represent the organisation in court when required.
• Mentor and guide nursing staff and less experienced team members.
• If you’re a new graduate or less experienced vet, you’ll receive hands-on mentoring and support from our experienced veterinary team to help you build confidence and skills.
• Collaborate closely with a skilled and supportive nursing team
