Description

Who we are

Altogether is an Australian multi-utility business providing essential water and energy services to communities across Australia.

We’re a growing business with an ambitious strategy and a strong focus on using technology, data and better ways of working to support our people, customers and communities.

Our size means you can have a genuine impact. You’ll work directly with people across the business, see the outcomes of what you deliver and have the opportunity to shape how we work as we continue to grow.

About the role

Own and optimise a diverse portfolio of 20+ business applications | Hands-on leadership role | Business-wide impact

We’re looking for an experienced Applications Manager to take ownership of our business application portfolio and help us get more value from the systems and data that support our organisation.

This is a broad, hands-on role responsible for the management, performance and continuous improvement of 20+ applications supporting Finance, People & Culture, Operations, Growth and Customer Operations.

You’ll work closely with stakeholders across the business to ensure our applications are reliable, secure, well integrated and fit for purpose, while identifying opportunities to simplify our technology landscape, improve system adoption, automate processes and strengthen data quality.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of our application portfolio, from implementation and support through to upgrades, patching and retirement
  • Maintain the application roadmap and proactively manage versions, dependencies and end-of-life risks
  • Manage application vendors, licensing, contracts, renewals, SLAs and external delivery partners
  • Manage the annual applications budget across licensing, support and project expenditure
  • Partner with teams across the business to understand requirements and improve how systems are used
  • Identify opportunities to rationalise applications, improve integrations and automate manual processes
  • Oversee application architecture, APIs, integrations and data flows
  • Strengthen application governance, documentation, security and data management practices
  • Partner with GRC to manage application cybersecurity, privacy and data risks
  • Monitor application availability, incidents, performance and support trends
  • Lead application upgrades, changes and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop practical user guidance, documentation and training materials
  • Work closely with the Infrastructure & Service Manager to build IT service resilience and provide cross-cover when required

About you

You’ll suit this role if you enjoy operating at the intersection of technology and the business. You can get into the detail when needed, but you can also step back and think about architecture, lifecycle, risk, investment and where the application environment needs to go next.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • 5+ years’ experience in application management, systems administration or business systems leadership
  • Experience managing a broad portfolio of SaaS and on-premise applications
  • Strong understanding of APIs, integrations, middleware and data flows
  • Experience managing technology vendors, licensing, contracts and renewals
  • Experience with systems such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint, HubSpot, Xero, Sage Intacct, Employment Hero, KeyPay, Jira or ServiceNow
  • Good understanding of IT service management principles, ideally including ITIL
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity, privacy and data governance
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • The ability to translate business requirements into practical technology solutions
  • A tertiary qualification in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business or a related discipline

Most importantly, you’ll bring a strong sense of ownership. You’ll be someone who sees an issue, works out what needs to happen and follows it through.

Why this role?

This isn’t simply a system support role.

You’ll have the opportunity to shape how our application environment is managed as a discipline, improve the experience of users across the organisation and influence future decisions around technology, integration, automation and data.

If you’re looking for a role where you can combine hands-on application management with genuine business influence, we’d love to hear from you.
